Has Adkins lost the dressing room

by andrew1957 » 28 Aug 2013 16:15

It seems to me fairly obvious from the last couple of timid and gutless performances that the players are simply not yet buying in to the Adkins passing style.

The reality is that Reading have played the Coppell and more recently McDermott "Reading way" very effectively for many years and with great success. Now the style is being changed and there seems little appetite from the players to transform the "Reading way" into the beautiful game.

Now we know that Kebe is unhappy and who knows who else but the reality is that players like Mariappa, HRK and ALF look a shadow of their former selves under McDermott - who seemed to have the great knack of getting the best out of limited players. Judging by his start at Leeds - who have a vastly inferior squad compared to RFC in terms of quality - McDermott has not lost that ability.

I said when McDermott was sacked that it was a huge risk and it now seems that we are standing on the edge of the precipice. Will Nigel be able to win over the players and get them to adjust and become a strong cohesive unit or will we spiral down like Wolves? The jury is out.

And I do wonder about the owner. Cardiff (for example) have brought in players for fees far is excess of out still measly club record paid of £2.5M. There have supposedly been a few big bids lodged but clearly ones that were never going to be accepted (Ince and Sigurdsson). In many ways I like the club being run sensibly but if we are serious about making a sustained bid for promotion and staying in the PL then a few marquee signings will be needed. Is there really any money?

Last night had little to with style more the lack of substance from the players. The majority of whom had an opportunity to play for their "shirts". Which is the least you would expect from any pro footballer.

Were you asleep last season? Even McDermott couldn't get a silk purse out of them.

Ship 'em out.

Way, way way too early and reading way way way too much into one gutless performance.

Irrelevant. It was an equally gutless performance against a team at home with nowhere near the attacking quality or momentum of P'boro.

And we all know what happened in the months following that game.

Yesterday was embarassing for all concerned, but last Saturday sure as hell wasn't 'gutless' and to write anyone off on the back of one game is the very height of stupidy. Hi Andrew.

Didn't we put in one of the best Reading performances in recent memory three games ago?

Yes. Well for about 60 minutes.

I didn't want Brian to go but it takes two to three seasons to build a new team and some of the over reaction to losing a pointless cup game has been absurd.

It's a rebuilding year, mid-table obscurity at worse while Nige gets his players in and implements the passing style the owner and so many on here seem to crave.

Possibly true. Looks to me that Guthrie and Drenthe are probably the two most able and enthusiastic to play Adkins' style.
I'm guessing if these two both got injured then the Peterborough battering would be one of many this season.

Only utter retards say "lost the dressing room". It's meaningless drivel.
