The last 12 games...

by Libertine » 19 Feb 2013 07:53

Now that we're done with the Cup we can focus on survival. The last 12 look like this and what I think is about as much as we can realistically hope to get from the games;

Wigan (H) - win
Everton (A) - draw
Aston Villa (H) - win
Manchester United (A) - loss
Arsenal (A) - loss
Southampton (H) - win
Liverpool (H) - draw
Norwich City (A) - draw
QPR (H) - win
Fulham (A) - draw
Manchester City (H) - loss
West Ham (A) - draw

If we can get these results from our run in we will end up on 40 points. Enough to survive? I would think so...

But getting results, at least 6 points, from our next 3 games is vital for us.

Can't help thinking we need to snatch an away win somewhere as I think we'll slip up in one of the "must win" home games.

But as Brian said he's only one more manager of the month away from staying up.

I can see us possibly getting wins at either Norwich, Fulham or West Ham. And also in what I thought can be our results I think there is a possibility of us grabbing a win in the the Liverpool home game. But if we can get results anything like this on the run in I think we'll stay up. As long as Brian can keep them focused on one game at a time like he has managed to do in the second halves of seasons the past few years, including the second half of this season up until this point, I don't think 17 points from the last 12 games can be called unrealistic expectations.

I think a lot hinges on the first of those 12 games.

Win it, I really think we can stay up. Lose and IMO it will all be over

Of our last 12 all but Man U and Arsenal away are "winnable". Even Man City at home is likely to be winnable - as they will most likely have nothing to play for by then.

We, therefore, need to win a minimum of 4 out of the 10 to reach 35 points and a few draws in addition would help too.

If Villa improve I suspect it will all come down to West Ham away and that we will need at least a point - so should be squeaky bum time then.

Wigan (H) - win
Everton (A) - draw
Aston Villa (H) - win
Manchester United (A) - lose
Arsenal (A) - lose
Southampton (H) - draw
Liverpool (H) - draw
Norwich City (A) - lose
QPR (H) - win
Fulham (A) - draw
Manchester City (H) - win
West Ham (A) – draw

40 points and safety.

Win it and we have three points and may have advanced on our competitors dependent on their results, lose it and it's the opposite

Depends so much on the next game and whether we can maintain our better performances and results.

if we beat Villa and Wigan I'm confident we'll survive. Less than 6 points from those two and we'll need to be picking up quite a lot of points elsewhere to stay up.

West Ham continue to slide and the last game becomes a relegation decider. We need to win, Wham just need the draw

I'm aware of how many points we get for a win or a draw, but IMO, it's crunch-time and a defeat v Wigan will send us down.

Yes, we can lose to wigan then win 11 on the trot, but we won't.

We squeezed out of the bottom 3, then slipped back in, and ATM it still looks like 3 from 4 QPR, RFC, Wigan, Villa

A loss on Saturday is more than failing to get 3 points. It gives Wigan impetus, and suddenly we are three consecutive defeats

I think Wigan are a better side than RFC anyway, and if they get more than a point above us they will be very hard to catch.

But they are not so good we can't beat them (even a draw might not be a disaster) but my gut tells me a defeat could lead
to us going on a bad run.

Remember from last season, not the best team wins. It will be tight this year, so it is the team with the greatest fighting spirit that will survive. Reading might just be such a team. If Reading nick a few draws here and there and win 4 home games, that should be enough.

No - Wigan just pass the ball better than us. They are weak at the back and started to panic at the weekend when a poor Huddersfield scored. Best chance of winning this is to attack and press early
