You're not fit to wear the hoops

by Rusty royal » 09 Dec 2012 10:38

We've had pants day and it helped turn the corner, now perhaps it's about time we revive a chant of old to vent our feelings to the players. If Brian believes there has never been a better time to watch Reading  Then let us fans (that have been around for a long time, while players and staff come and go) let them know the truth. I personally have never been so disappointed to be watching the dross served up by overpaid players (even back in the Div 4 days). I am sure that past players would have loved the chance to play in the Prem/1st division (as it was) but never got the chance.
Come on lads! If you can't raise your game to play in "the greatest football league in the world" then you are not fit to wear the hoops

Oh do fukk off.

Our squad is the worst in the division and, surprise, surprise, we are struggling. That does not mean the players aren't fit to wear the hoops, it means they are out of their depth. These are the same players who won the league last season despite being far from the best squad on paper in that division too. I'll reserve my "your not fit to wear the hoops" chants for when I feel we players are not even trying and I don't see that at all at the moment.

We've had two titles and many more highs than lows in the past decade but this season we are out of our depth. I would rather fans just accepted that and sucked it up rather than pilloring players and staff that have performed miracles in recent seasons.

 The away fans will just love this idea along with their Your Going Down with the Rangers chant.

This is the only sane and rational discussion point on this thread. Will there be any more salient points - doubt it.

Guys, guys....come on...I think that now is a time for some rational thinking here, by singing "You're not fit to wear the hoops" we are sending out all the wrong signals to our heroes and stealing a QPR song whilst we are at it. May I suggest a more alternative method of showing our collective disenchantment by requesting that every supporter over the age of fifty gathers by one of the corner flags and masturbates furiously on to a five square metre area of the pitch. That way the players, rather than enduring inane, dispiriting, some might say moronic chanting, can work out the cryptic clue from these actions.

The conclusion they would draw (especially Roberts who is just soooooo intelligent!) is that the majority of supporters are of the feeling the the fayre that is being served up at the Md Stad is indeed, A PILE OF OLD W&NK!

As schards wrote, it is not the effort that is missing, it is the merest hint of discernible talent on show that is lacking.

I did. I would say dispirited rather than lacking effort. Marginal difference I would agree.

The problem is not with the players - they are trying their best in a terrible system. What they need is some confidence and belief.

Nobody honestly believes in Brian anymore, why would the players be any different?

I agree with you as far as most of the team are concerned but I did not think all of them put in a full shift yesterday. I think the comment in todays Mail is spot on

Mikele Leigertwood plodded about long after he had run out of passion

They are supposed to be professionals and the amount these guys are paid they should not let their feeling dispirited get in the way of putting in 100% effort. I felt yesterday, for the first time this season, some just gave up. Having said that there is no way I would ever condone any negative chanting such as the OP suggested as it can only make matters worse.

Then we need a way of conveying our feelings to the players, at the moment I do not feel like going to watch (I will because it's my club) but I would also like to be able to express my feelings.

True, but why - what was the reason? And why would you have given up at 0-0? (which they seemed to do)
They banged on against Man U when they were 2-1 down and took it to 3-2.
I think they couldn't believe that a team that someone had told them were there for the taking, were on them 100% - they didn't give them time or any room to play at all (ie the complete opposite of our contant defensive tactics of let them play it about and don't bother to tackle or close down). So they could see no way through and thought they would park the old bus, of which they are defensively incapable of doing.

I know suspensions wouldn't help but for once it would be nice to see a few of the players react with a bit of fire and feistiness. A few hard challenges flying in and a bit of the physicals!

No, no, none of the "You're not fit..." crap.

What was obvious from watching the broadcast of the game though is the competitive spirit of the team has been crushed. No fight left in them. They appeared to be just as keen to make sure Soton saw that game out once they took the lead as the Soton players were. Absolutely no competitive fire left...and that happens during the course of things when lead after lead is pissed away, you have one win in fifteen and the manager keeps on selecting essentially the same squad game after game.
