What has the Pog done wrong?

by Mintymurray » 19 Nov 2012 19:43

We persist with Hunty, Jason seems to be first name, but our new, big name striker is benched. He needs time if ever its gonna work and needs a regular partner, I think since he joined us, the only thing missing seems to be a smile. Even when he scores he seems unhappy. But...........Where has all the expectation gone? Has to be better than the rest of our strike force, maybe this week, we will hear he is injured.

Not a lot, but he's also not done quite enough to keep out Roberts, and those two don't seem a great combination.

On a different wavelength to the rest of his team mates.

Think he has been harshly treated. I think he is another player like Guthrie who bm is not sure how to use. He has a good conversion rate and is fairly consistent. He runs around a lot too. We have npt supplied him with much to work on. He must be perturbed! He has not started moaning yet like Guthrie.

Maybe he's naturally a miserable bastard? Like myself.

IMO pog gets knocked off the ball far too easily for someone so big. He seems to be a Roberts type player, but Roberts is better. The only differences I've seen are 1. He at least attempts to win headers, and 2. Runs more direct angles.

I don't think Pog has done anything wrong, its just that Roberts is the better option at the moment, as his 2nd half performance showed that.

If I'm honest, I feel more sorry for Hunty.

Strikers aren't just about scoring necessarily. Roberts hold-up, running and link play is better than Pog's has been so far.

The Pog has done nothing wrong, except not perform as effectively in the team as his competition.

I think it's pretty harsh considering he's our top scorer! People been saying that Pog-Roberts combination doesn't work, but have we actually tried it out yet? Could be a world beater!

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Roberts is completely willing to set up the other striker and holds the ball up well.

Pogs main problem is that he isn't quick and can't seem to hold the ball up or head it (although he showed signs of learning last time he played). Seems like he's just a finisher who needs someone to put the ball at his feet around the box.

We don't really play like that, we expect a lot of work from our strikers and all the others are more willing (he'd be great as loan striker in front of a real number 10 I reckon).

Pog hasn't mastered the dark arts of Roberts' mauling, falling and general free-kick winning yet. Set pieces are always a lifeline for the less able sides (see England national team) so Roberts is merely there for his pain-in-the-arseness for opposition defenders. Win a free kick, get shorey to sling one in and hey presto we've got a chance.

We create almost nothing from open play so those free kicks are needed.

Think we should play 5-3-2 to include guthrie. Maybe we will sign more long ball larrys. If we steady the ship at the back i am sure we will be ok. However, Everton's goal was awful on Saturday abd we should have dead abd buried at ht.

McDermott hasn't got a clue who our best eleven is yet. We seem to look more threatening with Roberts and Hunt/Alfie up front, yet Pog is our best finisher and leading goalscorer and he misses out. He clearly favours people that hustle and bustle, so Pog loses out for now, but I can't help think it's a bit of a waste of such a good striker at this level.

We are paying a hell of a wage for someone who cannot be picked above a 34 year old or unproven strikers.

Pog/Roberts/Alf/ will change throughout the season and they are all effective their own ways.

Hunts job should be to come on in the last 20 and hassle tired defenders. (THAT'S IT)

Pog hasn't done anything wrong its just McDermott has gone back to basics with strikers who will make channel runs.

While Roberts has looked good at times when playing I thought he was poor the last two games. Offered fairly little going forward in the most part. Not saying Pog has done better but its not ideal
