Ultra Dreadful

by Irvinchangeyaname » 04 Mar 2012 17:04

I'll probably get shouted down for this on the basis that any noise is good noise but can we knock this faux-Ultra chant (as heard yesterday) on the head now before it develops?

Lower league teams throughout the country are adorning themselves with banners and flags declaring their Ultra status, all singing that same old refrain.

For the past few months I've laughed at the Brighton fans for singing the Palace 'song' at their shiny new stadium. My fear is that we're now going to do the same.

Rant over. Now, where's my megaphone....'whoooaohhh. whoooaohhh....'

Ian,

Goes something like this
we're reading, we're reading, we're reading and that's the way we like, we like, we like it
woahoaoaoaoaohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

etc etc etc

Replace team name for anyone else in the league.

It's an easy chant, it makes a lot of noise.

What's there to complain about?

I detest that chant and had been delighted I've never heard us sing it. Lets swap one identikit shit chant for another because every other retard sings it. Can't we just stick to the one's we've already got until someting vaguely original turns up!

that's what 95% of football chants are. as reading don't have anything unique to us (well except the 106 chant), then we can hardly talk about "other retards".

I hear absolutely every team sing that.

I hear very few singing molly malone, land of hope and glory, when skies are grey, we're not barcelona, etc etc.

In fact the last few games I've been to pretty much all I've heard is that dreadful dirge and I wanna go home. Which is equally terrible. What am I saying? It's definitely worse.

Not really sure you can have an opinion on this when you never go to games Ian, but then I guess you have to have an opinion on everything.

To be honest while I'd obviously prefer some new and inventive songs it was nice to have a chant that people could easily pick up and join in with that also made a lot of noise.

Anything that gets fans loud and backing the team is a good thing and unless you're there and prepared to get some chants going yourself it's a bit rich to try and slag it off.

Like I said, I'd prefer some more old school or original chants but the song helped make a decent atmosphere yesterday and a decent loud atmosphere generated but a slightly dodgy song > the quiet mumblings we usually get these days.

Oh and it was nice to see the Robson-Kanu song get a bit of love yesterday :D

Obviously I wouldn't have an opinion on it if I hadn't and didn't go to games, but I did and still do. I'd be pissed off to hear this against Leicester on the 10th.

Wimb - I've never been a chant starter, but I do join in early and put my heart into it when I am there. Definitely away games. It's a bit harder if I'm the only oxf*rd doing it within 10 seats in any direction at home.

Wah wah wah we don't sing enough. Wah wah wah that song's sh!t why are we singing it?

I don't particularly like it and the guy who kept singing it non stop for most of the second half really annoyed me but if it gives the team a boost going then who cares? They don't care what we sing as long as we support them.

Heard it sung at the Cardiff game today. Just the latest song that every team in the league will sing

Its not original at all but it's a nice, loud chant that everyone cab join in with, and generates a good atmosphere so I'm all for using it.

Just out of curiosity, what makes it different to half a dozen chants already used by us in that regard? For example the ones I listed above are piss easy and personally with this one I could never work out what the hell anyone was singing until the "like it" bit.

Celtic were singing this 2/3 season before everyone else, snagged from the continent by them...then down to england.
