Ian Royal
Platypuss Barring new signings and injuries, if yesterday's starting eleven isn't Rodgers's envisaged starting eleven for Saturday, why did he play it?

What better time to try out players he wasn't quite certain would be up to Champ level? And it's another week for the likes of NHunt, Harper and Marek to get fit.

Well, I don't know about you, but I'd be slightly uncomfortable with going into the first game of the season with a team which hadn't even had as much as a single semi-competitive game together.

Matejovsky was due to start, but a minor groin injury meant he didn't play as they didn't want to take the risk.

Hence the "injuries" :|

I thought you'd meant barring injuries to those who started against Chelsea, not barring the recovery from injuries of others.

Whatever the varying combinations / preferences shown above, any bunch of supporters who can, after yesterday, quite confidently propose a team that would put most / all of Hamer, Harper, Matejovsky, NHunt, Henry, Karacan and Church on the bench (with Armstrong, Ingimarsson and Bikey not even available yet) must surely be looking forward to the season with a fair dose of optimism.

We had an abundance (and probably an over-abundance) of midfield options last season and it didn't end up as well as we would have hoped.
I'll be a lot more optimistic once we get a striker in - Saturday's game didn't do anything to reduce that feeling.

Let's hope it turns into a major long-term groin injury then.

Why would you think that?

I thought it was pretty clear that my post was regarding Rodgers's choice of players starting against Chelsea - why would that be influenced by injuries that haven't happened yet?

The team I'd go for would be:-

Fed
Rosy
A New Defender (or Cisse)
Pearce
Plastic
Cisse (or Gunnar. See above)
Pinball
Marek (or Davies if Marek is not fit)
Robson-Kanu
Long
Kebe

Throwaway black humour or not, that is poor form. Really poor form.

Either it wasn't that clear, or I'm dense.

Why on earth do you say that? That is a disgraceful thing to say about a Reading player. Unless you aren't a real Reading fan.

Actually, it's a pretty poor thing to say about any player, regardless of the team they play for.

Saying it about Marek would suggest the offender isn't even a fan of football!

.................,.Fed..................

Rosenior....Pearce..Mills  ...Bertrand.

....................Cisse.......................

..............Davies.....Tabb................

Robson-Kanu.....................Kebe.......

....................Long........................

Subs: Hamer, Gunnarsson, Harper, Matejovsky, N.Hunt, Henry, Armstrong.

I feel that against chelsea we played 2 DMS to cope with their diamond formation so as its forest tabb will be getting forward a bit more with davies. Im taking a gamble on us signing mills based on what i've read on the doncaster forums and I think he will start if we get him.

id like to see just 1 defensive CM in tabb for the forest game, but can see why you and rodgers may think differently for the 1st game
personally id have davies and marek (if fit) playing further upfield

but other than that
i agree totally with your selection and formation of coppells babes.

LOL!

ooo thats good

im reeling under your hail of blows

...........odd you pick them, rather than any of the 05-07 teams

why would you do such a thing........

and i reckon fergusons list of flops would be just as long, but infinitely more expensive
but you just wouldnt do it, because clearly the good buys outweigh the bad ones for both 10-1
and the success makes it irrelevant

unless you were a mentalist of course.....

harper?

didnt pards sign him?
the manager you reckon did more for us than coppell?

owusu-did a job
duberry-did a job and provided much needed experienced foil for pearce

golbourne-wasnt he for the youth team you say coppell had no input into whatsoever?

He did indeed, but he played some of his worst football under Coppell who made him captain yet still 'mugged him off', showing the amount of respect the great man commanded.
