Baines A player's contribution can rarely be reduced to the kind of stats you've quoted above.

Sidwell brought a lot to the team that Bryn can't bring to the team for 90 minutes a match over the course of the season. Sidwell was also part of a settled and successful side - and whoever we bring in can't replicate that from the word go.

It would be good for Coppell to bring someone else in, but if the right person won't come for the right money then we are not in such bad shape that we can't cope with what we've got. And whoever is brought in will not "replace" Sidwell as I expect any new player will alter slightly the dynamic of the team.

i know

i loved sidwell thought he was great, probably the best we have ever had in the time ive watched, as i remember little about simon osbourn

just think its a bit funny(peculiar) that these stats are true,
and thought they may add to the debate
plus
someone is on the way to replace sidders, (i ope)
cisse is proving to be a good buy so far
and i cant wait for brynn to get a few more games than usual, cos hes one of my favourite players who didnt play as much as deserved, mainly due to the closed shop in midfield,

Move on please you guys. A better debate IMO might be: How many Prem games will Sidwell start for Chelsea next season? My guess - zero.

Happy to. Keyboard and forehead have taken a massive beating.

Think it will be more than that. Not much more, but more.

Think he will be involved in between 15 to 20, plus cup games.

Why does it have to be made personal?

Does that ever win an argument?

papereyes Nope, not quite.

You said that the squad wasn't weaker. ??????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!And, thankfully, a lot of people pointed out the inherent fallacy of your point.

either you need reading lessons, or you are just fishing, nice try.

Keep. Up. I made no mention to the comment being in the current thread, but thought I referred back to a past thread.

If you've changed your mind, then that's OK. That would make sense.

but i specifically, and very carefully said "this thread"

Don't think you did.

At least five possibly as many as twenty would be my guess. Though of course Woodcote would play this down as being some sort of ploy by Chelsea to lose the league

I think you will be very surprised and I expect him to start quite a few games and be a success like he was at Reading.

Cisse is not a direct replacement for Sidwell, and as good as Gunnarson is to enter the new season without a quality replacement for Sidwell is short sighted in my view and hopefully will be addressed.

And also quoting from a post that missed the point of where I was quoting from.

So a rather pointless thing to say as its clear that you hadn't said that on this thread and my previous intervention didn't refer specifically to this thread.

he'll get a fair few
hope so anyway
any success he has reflects well on us and our set up

what are the bets he gets booed silly when on the bench when he visits the mad stad the next time, then comes on second half and scores a hattrick having magically recovered his shooting boots.

We're Reading fans.

Hell, we're football fans.

We'll boo most ex-players. We'll even boo some current players.

can you possibly find the quote where i say we arent weaker this season
on any thread?

i understand thats what you think i was saying papes, but it wasnt, thats what started the other cyber-tiff, i tried to point out the error, but in the end just enjoyed making the the debate go all high pitched,

was just trying to say, in reply to some "how can anyone seriously say we arent weaker without sidwell" thread/post
that we really cant tell as yet.......IMVHO

Who Moved The Goalposts? Of course, the fact of the matter is none of us know what Sidders' departure will mean until the first month of the season has been and gone.

I will admit to being a little apprehensive though. Not because I subscribe to the fan club as I don't think Sidwell is anywhere near as good as he (and the media) believes. But rather because watching the review DVDs last weekend made me realise just how involved he was last season. Plenty of assists, some goals and lots of chances missed. I was genuinely surprised by this as I cannot recall thinking so at the time.

We are short of quality options in central midfield and I would like to see someone come in, but we'll just have to trust SC and co on this.

that is just rubbish

there have been many occasions when sidders wasnt present due to injury/fatigue and the team more than limped on without him

not sure what the difference is to now

In fairness to brendy, he may not have actually stated we are not weaker without Sidwell. But he sure as hell implied it! In response to my post about Sidwell's contribution last season, he called my reasoning rubbish, prefering to highlight that we did ok in the fewer games we played without him!

Oh and he told me, as a newbie, to f off :)

Why not swap seats for Wed 15th August and ask the man himself how many games he expects to play?

Why, will he be sat with you on your high horse talking down at everyone? I doubt he will start against us but being Mourinho and with the history of the last home game, he may well put him on the bench as some sort of jibe at us. Hell he may even score a goal, I'd laugh if he did whereas BBC Berks will probably have to stop broadcasting while you swear at the top of your lungs and have a coronary
