According to the "wise" round here, we didn't fluke anything
and were clearly the best side in last year's championship

(and I'm a tea-pot)

yuomi is there room for an argument that says we don't really deserve to be here in the first place?

Did you miss the bit where we deservedly won the league title last season?

Reading4eva We might be 6 points behind but teams have turned it round before from this position. So what do we do, who do we sign, who leaves.

I'd say, first of all, McD to step aside.

Stopped reading after this. Brian deserves to stay.

Jesus can't you stitch the two together?

No, there's no mileage in suggesting we don't deserve to be in the Premier League because we - completely fairly - won a 46 game league season last year. We also won away at both our promotion rivals in the closing weeks of the season.

Suggesting we don't deserve to be in the Prem is some kind of perverse self-loathing statement that only Reading fans could come up with.

Keep the ball and be able to pass the ball consecutively to a player in a Reading jersey more than 3 times.

Play Guthrie CM which will help us keep the ball and pass.
Play Pog ST, not on his own and play to his feet; Guthrie will be able to help with this. Play ALF alongside him.

Drop Legs because he is complete shit and needs to buck up his ideas.

Play 4-4-2 at home and a defensively 4-2-3-1 away; at the moment. Go for the win at home and at away just try not to lose, play any other ST just not Pog away at moment lets try and build his confidence at home.

Team for Arsenal: Federici, Cummings, Pearce, Mariappa, Shorey, HRK, Guthrie, Tabb, McAnuff, Pog, ALF.
Every point counts from now to the end of the season and even more so of the shit Brian and the players have put us in.

I still think we are going down even speaking this optimistic.

Some maths

by Lovely hot donuts! » 15 Dec 2012 11:23

Just thought I’d look at the maths of what we’d need to stay up.

We currently sit with 9 points after 16 games. Whilst everyone quotes 40 points, the average points of team in 17th in the last five seasons is actually 37 – so let’s target that.

That would mean we need 28 points from 22 games. To achieve this we need a minimum of three wins. This would still reply on us drawing each remaining game!

Three wins is fairly possible when you consider we still have home games against Sunderland, Wigan, Villa, Southampton & QPR.

HOWEVER, the flipside of this is that it would seem quite unlikely that we’d get anything from trips to Man City, Tottenham, Everton, Man Utd & Arsenal.

If you take those out of the equation then we actually have 17 games to get 28 points! This would mean we would need six wins to get to 37 points. I.e. win all five aforementioned home games and another (West Ham are the next lowest team in the table yet to come to the MadStad so I guess it would mean winning that)! And this would still rely on us scraping ten draws out of the eleven remaining games!

AND I still haven’t factored in home games against Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City at home all of which we would be quite unlikely to get anything from!

If we take out these too then we would need to get the 28 points from just 14 games! This would have to include a whopping EIGHT victories! And still four draws in the remaining six!

You could possibly also add, with their current form in mind, games against Swansea, West Brom & Liverpool, where the odds will be stacked firmly again us, to the list of games where we’re unlikely to pick up anything.

If you did then that’s 28 needed from eleven! This would have to include NINE WINS!! And a point from the other two aswell!

Having worked through this I can’t help but feel we are firmly in the shit!

Tbf, I can't see us needing as much as 37 points this season.

Too many other teams in the mire.

Perhaps but it won't be too much less, the least ever since the start of the 20 team premier league was the 34 points of West Brom in 2003/04.

The relegation battle will be very tight, I wouldn't be surprised if we only need about 24 points to stay up as there are just so many teams in the shit

IMO The only argument that holds water is one that says:

We won the Champ fair and square but with a style that would not be nearly as effective in the Premiership.
West Ham and Southampton, while not as good as us in the Championship, played with styles that needed less adjustment to be effective in the Prem.

So not really an argument per se, more a statement of the bloddy obvious.
