Cheer up me darlings,

Having spent most of the summer feeling ambivalent about promotion (cost, difficulty getting tickets, prospect of losing a lot of games, patronising away fans, patronising pundits) I am now starting to enjoy it.

Perhaps it's that we are now clearly going to be in a long, bitter, attritional battle. This is new - the previous relegation came after a shocking last few games rather than a season long grind. And I'm all for new experiences. Maybe it's our turn for 'the great escape'. Maybe it's our turn to try and show dignity and humour in the face of annihilation. Either way, might as well try and enjoy it.

Feeling marginally better about things. After further self analysis and reading these posts I wonder if the massively exciting season last year, exceeding all expectations meant this season was always going to be 'a back down to earth season' regardless of if whether we had got promoted or not. I am hoping that my fickle football mojo is re-kindled by an improvement in our final third activity and not just relying on 3 teams continuing to perform more badly than us. Optimistic for a royal romance!

winchester_royal These threads always seem to pop up when things aren't going quite as well.

Just you wait till we give United a good hiding in a month, then the same posters will be getting a Brian McDermott tattoo on their foreskin.

Be careful, I am still trying to get rid of me Terry the Taxi foreskin tattoo.

windermere_royal Goodness fecking me, this makes hard reading, all those celebrations in May mean nothing now because we don`t like being where we are now up among the elite of English football,

That's the issue for me. Is it elite or overblown?

I suspect the former.

I think they should introduce more inequality into the game by allowing teams to buy their place in the prem. basically the team finishing 3rd bottom would be allowed to buy their spot from one of the promoted teams if the deal was acceptable for the promoted club.

That way, we could nail bite about winning the championship or making the playoffs every year without having to then endure a year of bloody misery as a sort of delayed hangover.

New chant please, 'we are staying down, say we are staying down'

I did actually enjoy today - go figure. On a positive note having had the privilege to experience LR sober for once - it's rubbish. 45 quid tickets and can't see half the goal! Good company though.
