Jackson Corner Kebe will go to West Ham for £500,000 no one will be bought in.

Hammond always drives a hard bargain for our players, the fee will be 7-figures

you may be right, but I very much doubt it. He is out of contract at the end of the season.

Yep, the fans given the mushroom treatment (as if those in the game haven't got a pretty good idea of what the undisclosed fee was!), yet still so many applaud their 'Great Leader' like well directed North Koreans!

Funny how no one complains about our CM being too defensive when we pick up the 3 points - both of them are very decent for this level

Tony Le Mesmer 23rd to 5th in 3 months.

"Not Strong Enough" apparently. Not strong enough for who exactly?

6 points ahead of 16th. We had a bad start, we've had a good middle, but we need to maintain and even improve our form if we are to be promoted. That might need new players.

Not a GOOD middle, a BRILLIANT middle, top club in the division over the 18 games (prob 2nd after that defeat, dunno)

Think you'll find it's been a common theme on here for the last few months (if not longer) throughout this good run of results before today.

I can see Griffin, Federici, Kebe and HRK leaving this month.

Griffin on a free to a club up north
Federici / Kebe to highest bidders
HRK to Millwall

Griffin may be a good shout.

He won't be on cheap wages and with Cummings looking like the man in possession and Gunnarsson, Tabb and hopefully Arnold being able to cover it may be a wage we can save.

Yup - look at his performance v Ipswich - he really looked to me like he didn't give a shit. May also explain why Griffin has played at LB with Cummings at RB rather than vice versa as we know Cummings has done well at LB.

RoyalBlue Gooding made the same point.

Apparently McDermott wants to keep existing squad together and bring two new players in but, as Gooding pointed out, this would involve a break from recent tradition of having to sell players, in order to realise funds to bring new (cheaper) players in.

When was the last January transfer window that this "recent tradition" actually happened. In fact have we ever done what you claim is a "tradition" in any January transfer window in the last decade???

What we've done in the recent Summer windows and what we've done in January are not the same thing. Though feel free to claim "tradition" even though it's actually nonsense just because Mick Gooding says so, whilst at the same time accusing others of slavishly following what the club says like "North Koreans"

Although probably a 'too good for the championship, not good enough for the premiership' type player, I feel that Graham Dorrans from WBA would be a superb acquisition.

Let's not forget that the selling that happened in August has already been done - so the money from that is ready to be spent now.

You really believe that money will be made available to McDermott?

Time will tell .... but the "no money in" is also as "no money out" - and as long as they banked enough in August to cover the projected shortfall for the year (which they clearly did with Long & Mills) I see no reason why there shouldn't be.

And as always, don't forget that wages are as significant as transfer fees.

Sounds to me like Hammond is a tough negotiator, and there's no way on earth West Ham will have Kebe for pocket change.
They might call Hammond up to ask about Kebe, and up giving us Nolan in exchange for two pints of milk and an old Vespa.

absolutely, this was the man that sold Andy Hughes for 500K

This.

No one should expect us to take our transfer spending to over, or even close to the alleged £8m or whatever we apparently got for those two. And remember we have spent over £2m since the end of last season already (again allegedly).

But we can probably afford another few hundred thousand without any more in. And there is always the small possibility this is the year we decide to roll the dice a little more. We are, afterall, in a stronger position than previous January's iirc (since Coppell left anyway). So spending a bit more than we can really afford is a little less of a gamble as the chances of going up are a bit better. And we're never likely to do more than mean we have to have a particularly lean season next season if it fails anyway.

The word from the manager (via Tim Dellor's after match chat yesterday) is, supposedly, that he doesn't want to lose anyone but does want to bring two players in.

I am preesuming one of those players would be a centre half, to cover for Khumalo presumably returning to Spurs, and is therefore not someone who'd get into the 1st team straight away therefore I'd guess at them looking at a younger player with promise for that role.

Presumably the other is the much mooted attacking midfielder/striker role that we've all been banging on about (or knowing our management another goalkeeper or full back).

Not just wages but insurance premiums etc - the more valuable a player, the higher the overhead of supporting them. This was a big blocker for Gylfi returning...
