Great, another J Mills. Will they have to have their first names on the shirts if they ever play together?

Seriously though, pleased with this. Looks a decent young player, and in McDermott we trust.

M-U-R-T-Y Unless we're signing a 4 year old as well.

Would still be better than Marcus Williams.

Thomas L'Heureux they've got Dan Harding and have recently signed Danny Fox, so he'd be third choice behind those two.

He's behind Dan Harding who we signed a few seasons ago ourselves as our 2nd choice left back. Reading FC have jumped the shark.

Royal Lady Really?? How much?

Undisclosed, I hope.

According to Madejski's own rule, nothing like as much as the media will make out. Given that, probably the square root of f all.

Bargain then. You must be pleased.

Royal Lady According to Fordham on Twitter, Joe Mills can't get in the Southampton team. :|

Haven't seen what Fordham has said, but they've got Dan Harding and have recently signed Danny Fox, so he'd be third choice behind those two.

Makes you wonder whether we should've signed Harding ourselves when he was available on a free a few years back.

I thought Harding was excellent when we had him and could not understand why we did not offer him a contract. He has been a great success at Southampton.

Shows how far we have fallen in the pecking order when a couple of years ago we were prepared to let Harding go when we could have signed him for nothing and now we are happy to sign Southampton's third choice left back (behind Harding) - who cannot get a game for them.

Have to remember when we got Harding he couldn't get in the Ipswich (?) team, and although he was solid for us but we don't see what goes on behind the scenes. He may well have turned us down or stated he didn't wish to stay so we didn't offer him a contract.

Agreed. I can't think of any occasions on which the purchase of an unheralded left-back has worked out for us.

More added to the wage bill that Madejski whinges about. These 'work in progresses' don't come cheap and not that many will make the grade. It's time the club started looking at quality as opposed to quantity and delivery this season as opposed to possible delivery at some point in the future.

I thought the same. Perhaps because it was because of the Coppell-Rodgers transition period that meant it got overlooked. He came at the same time as Tabb right?

In terms of Mills, we've let plenty of players go who've gone onto succeed elsewhere. There's no reason he can't do a class job here and have Saints fans saying the same thing as we have about Cox et al. Welcome to the club Joseph.

To be fair to the lad, nobody is writing him off. He may well turn out to be a bargain. It's just at this present moment in time there are other areas that need to be addressed too.

I am pleased with this signing. At the very least we needed a young left back with a little bit of pace to put pressure on Harte for his place, with a view to replacing him by the end of the season. (Similar to Cummings and Griffin on the other flank).
Hopefully this was the work-in-progress.
Now for an experienced, top quality central defender (for an undisclosed fee).

Where, of course, lack of pace is of no concern at all.
