It would be iteresting if you compare it to other sides, without that context it won't tell you much.

My gut feeling is that you'll find the majority of goals are scored around half time (more after the whistle than before) and in the last 15/20 minutes of games.

I don't think we do anything special in the first half but the first 15/20 minutes of a game is often tighter because teams are jostling for superiority more than later in games (unless it's a tight game with little in it and neither willing to gamble on the win).

Ian Royal Sadly Intelligent Design and Creationism get lots of support, it doesn't mean they're in anyway valid.

Although of course, plenty that you say is.

I have NO IDEA if this is a significant stat, and SAID So.

It's merely "one worth watching"

We might go 4-0 up in the first 15 minutes, Saturday.

Even then we might discover that McDermot has two strategies, one for tough games
Millwall-Leicester-Pompey (and virtually all away games) would be that.

and another for (relatively, subjectively) "easy" games

For example, we might expect lowly sides to come to the MadStad and "park the bus"

Or, you might eventually realise that there are a multitude of unquantifiable variables behind every game.

Hey, Einstein, what would be "unquantifiable"
about an unusual amount of 0-0 halves,
or finding that we had (compared to other clubs)
an unusually leaky 15 minutes?

If MOST or all clubs played out 0-0 first halves
and most or all clubs most-of-the-time conceded
in the first 15 minutes or so of the second half
then there wouldn't be an issue.

Odd tactics, fitness, and God knows what else could figure
but myriad variability would not be one of them.

Mr Snowball,

I like stats in general but I don't find this particularly user friendly. Is it possible to make a slightly easier to read table?

I appreciate you have explained in text above how to interpret this table but if its to be a regularly updated post its hard to read it each time.

Snowball Hey, Einstein, what would be "unquantifiable"

And the need to be sarcastic and call some Einstein was justifiable because......

People are allowed to question what you post you know....

And of course Rob Royal wasn't being sarcastic.

Those loopy-loos among you who regularly trot-out the mantra that football is complicated
are preaching to the converted.

You think I don't KNOW football is complicated, that it involves luck and chance and fine margins?

With luck we could have scored 4-5 goals at Portsmouth

We could have conceded a similar number.

OCCASIONALLY that happens.

Pompey get unlucky and we have a 3/4/5-0 win or instead THEY win 4-0. I've seen the better side lose 4-0. It happens, but ON AVERAGE things work out. Anomalies will always arise, but they aren't what we base our longer-term judgments on.

Read Moneyball and see just what can be done by decent analysis.

In particular read what those analytical experts faced when they
first said the eye-ball in the heat of the moment is a lousy judge.

When I teach writing I say we study, analyse, dissect, test BETWEEN writing stories, but
when actually approaching a story we "write drunk" (meaning let go and just do it.)

It's the same with football. I watch as a fan but do NOT trust my subjective opinions over
a more measured, more objective, repeated study of tapes etc, and actual facts.

All you need to know is that the last number (Example 69 HRK)
shows the number of minutes taken to score (worth a 1), assist (1), hit woodwork (.5) or half-assist (.5)

The higher up the list the more the player is contributing (per minute played)

Zed, I have already changed it (Page 4)

Column 6 Minutes per Goal
Column 7 Minutes per Goal/Assist/Hit WW combined

Also showing "half-assists" whereas second player was clearly involved in the making of a goal, as was
Griffin's assistance to Kebe for the cross to Manset v Millwall, Pearce/Hunt v Leicseter

Last Column (eg HRK "every 43 minutes played", shows Goal (1), Hit Woodwork (.5), assist (1), or secondary assist (.5) )

The lower the number the more productive (attacking-wise) is the player.
