Coppell basically hasn't addressed the two main problems from last season - a weak central midfield and no decent right wingers at the club. This will show if we go back up.

1871royals Kebe is playing his first season regularly in this country

That is irrelevant. If you get tackled often, miscontrol the ball, or fall over, it means you are not a good player. Jimmy Kebe is in the side to get hold of the ball, run at players with the ball, take them on, and create chances. He can do none of that effectively or or consistently.

FiNeRaIn And like floyd said, where is that stat?

Here is the link to the assists:

I do think its a big factor he playing his first season in England, you need to cut players some slack to adjust.

I dont think Kebes perfect, but he's doing well. He doing his job, which is to set up goals. Its ridiculous to compare him to a pub player.

At the last fans forum SC said he was excited about Kebe and they wouldnt give him a new contract if hes playing poorly.

Thanks for the link 1871 - I'm bookmarking that. Kebe's not the best player in the world but the stats do not lie. Also back up my ascertation that I would swap Keightly for Kebe in an instant.

And here we go again, polarised viewpoints that are based in the real world and relevant observations, but have somehow taken on a life of their own and multiply massively in the telling to prove their point.

Kebe is great when we are on top and controlling a game, and when we are causing problems down either wing. In those circumstances, with Rosenior giving him options he can be deadly. The defenders back off him and make mistakes and so what if he cocks it up 4 times out of 5. We're on top so he'll get that 5th chance.

The problem comes, when Shunt is pegged back, or doubled up on and we're under the cosh so the full backs can't get up and support the attack. At that point Kebe's ability to consistently choose the wrong option, or try and beat his man 5 times before putting in a cross destroys any chance we have.

Yes in those circumstances he is often our only attacking outlet, and he runs at people and looks dangerous. BUT he never actually creates a goal at those times.

I'd far rather have someone slower with fewer tricks and less skill, but who could make the right decisions.

Unfortunately we have too few players who can take a game by the scruff of the neck when we're playing badly. SHunt is one, and so is Doyle, but everyone knows they're two of our best players, so often they are double marked.

I don't think Coppell has failed to address the two problems of last season. The fact that Kebe has so many assists and has played so often demonstrates we have a right wing now. At this level, for plan a our central midfield is perfectly good enough as well.

I am slowly becoming more and more fed up of watching Kebe. At the start of the season it was interesting and exciting to watch. He was taking men on, he was skilful, he brought me at least to the edge of my seat in anticipation of something spectacular. All too often though, it ended with nothing after a poor ball was played, or he was tackled, or he bunted the ball too far ahead of him, or as has happened on a number of occasions, he fell over the ball or himself. It is getting tedious and embarrassing now, because despite what stats say, his end product is shit. I no longer have that feeling of anticipation now, I instead have a feeling of "why did we give the ball to him".

Am I the only person who doesnt understand this comment at all?

How can your end product be shit, if you have the 3rd most assists in the division?

When given opportunity after opportunity to get it right, you'll eventually get it right. Even you can't fail to notice the amount of times he fails to deliver any kind of meaningful ball when presented with the oportunity to do so.

To me he really needs to only beat 3 players and get the cross in early instead of taking on the whole of the opposition and running out of options. Yesterday he even came to a grinding halt at one point and then lost the ball.

The best example for me was in the first half against Watford. We were creating good chances at that point so it must have been fairly early on.
He got the ball and ran at his defender. The defender was clearly in trouble and Kebe jinked inside. Now I don't know if he decided there wasn't a pass on or what, but he then decided to jink outside and then back inside again. Not happy with that he finally decided to try and go outside again. By which time the defender was so lost and confused he was basically just turning on the spot one way and then another. Kebe could have released the ball or gone past him on at least 2 of those first 3 jinks. But no what does he do? tryies the 4th and runs straight into the defenders foot.

Ball lost, chance lost. Against Watford not so important. They had no threat and did nothing dangerous with the ball. And gave it back to us plenty. Swansea did have a threat and didn't sound like they relinquished possession easily. Kebe got plenty of attacking runs, but not one of them seemed to result in a shot.

He got clattered at one point when if he'd re;eased the ball much much earlier we could have done a little more with it.

I'm not a Kebe basher as a feel when he finally gets that balance of showmanship and end result refined - he will be a huge benefit to the team. It's really a question or when and where.

I think he might get the picture if we fail this season and he's still here next. If we go up, the step up in quality will catch him out IMO.

Personally, seeing as we know Kebe can play on the left I'd like to see Convey go and a quality right winger brought in. SHunt on one flank with Kebe as back up and Henry backing up on the right.

At the moment the right wing is just a little too unreliable. And as we all know, SHunt can also go missing. We works best when we are creating from both flanks and varyng our attacks.

For some of the shortcomings Kebe may have at the moment - he puts the fear of god into most defences and thats the type of player we need- he's still developing both at the level and the pace of the English game - he isnt an instant miracle worker - but there are the signs there of what he can become

'greed

He didn't have the best of games I know but at times he showed some class. Especially with runs down the middle. The bloke had talent, it's just his decision making what lets him down.

Try reading some of the less rabid comments, you'll note that people are saying it is his end product which is a problem. The fact that whilst being the most creative outlet all he created was corners and throw ins says a lot to me.

Some of us one here try to be a voice of reason. He will come good when he learns to control his pace. His pace and decision making are frustrating at times but there will be an end product at some point. He just needs to slow down some point.

Hallelujah for a voice of reason! The whole point about Kebe, and one that the moaners completely miss, is that he's not an end product - he's a work in progress. This is RFC and this is what we do. Like Sir Mad frequently says, we need a billionaire benefactor to be able to sit at the big table when it comes to buying big talent. So instead we have to gamble on potential talent and these decisions come down to the gut feeling of SSC and the coaching staff. More often than not they get it right, sometimes they don't. We will probably end up getting our fingers burnt with Fae, but that's the only big failure that I can think of. We even made a profit on Greg Halford. And remember that few, if any, of the Sidwell, Shorey, Sonko or Kitson crew set the world on fire in their first season. I personally think that the problem fans on this board have with Kebe is that he seems to promise more than he delivers. I'd counter that by saying that the promise is the key. Delivery will come in time. And FWIW, I'd also add that in my opinion, the contract extension had less to do with sending a signal to other clubs and more to do with making sure that he doesn't follow Sidwell and do a Bosman. Ergo, those within the club rate him, so despite what people here may think they plan to have him around for a while. And no, I'm not related in any shape form or fashion.
