Baines If the sun's shining: 2-0

Otherwise: 1-1
Good point. Better rack some points up while the weather's still tolerable.

Where are the goals going to come from? I doubt Long NHunt and Church will score 20 goals between them this season. At best 0-0 probably lose 1-0

Long and NHunt got 20 between them last season.

Why do some people never have any space in their mind for young players to improve, or for more experienced players to improve under a new coaching system with a new manager or for an improvement in outfield play to produce more chances for the strikers?

Long has his weaknesses but he has a great conversion rate of shots to goals, and of goals per minutes, so, being as young as he is, and with a coach who seems certain to improve his 1st touch, it seems logical to me to expect him to improve as a player and at least stay close to his conversion rate this season.

Church is very young but has shown an excellent spacial awareness and times his intelligent runs very well, so that his apparent lack of electric pace may not be much of a hindrance - he has shown a classy coolness in front of goal and will only continue to improve.

NHunt was carrying and recovering from injuries much of last season yet still had ann excellent scoring record.

How the hell can a Reading supporter say / believe that these 3 will not score 20 goals between them? Beats me. Maybe it's because he rates Mooney, Robson Kanu and Henry so highly.

I agree, but in their defence (slightly!) I think it's even harder to predict this time given our likely formation. I'm really looking forward to the game on Saturday because we'll be seeing something new, and while it won't give us the full picture (that will be at least 15 games or so into the season), it will offer some clues.

I'd be pleasantly surprised if any of Long, Hunt, or Church got over 15 goals next season. We so need a new striker.

A bright warm day. Both teams a bit subdued as there are too many new players for flowing football. Some nice passing from us and a lucky goal giving us the points without too much angst in the closing minutes.

In that case mate I'll reiterate my scoreline from the chavs and shit-britches thread.

A resounding 2-0 to the lads.
