Re: Newcastle (H) Predictions

Thought I would share this email from Elite Soccer coaching. Just as well we don't rely soley on our wingers... Oh :(

Newcastle United eased to a 1-0 Premier League win over Norwich City at St James’ Park on Sunday with Demba Ba scoring the only goal of the game.

The margin of victory should have been greater, with Papiss Cisse missing a penalty for the Magpies.

But it was at the other end where Newcastle impressed most, as they limited Norwich to just a couple of serious chances.

Mike Williamson and Steven Taylor were commanding in the centre of the Magpies defence with Alan Pardew's training sessions on defending crosses clearly paying dividends with a second clean sheet in a row.

Mike Williamson was well positioned to defend crosses
Alan's session on defending crosses, written up for Elite Soccer, works on players' recovery runs and teaches the best run to make out of possession to protect the goal.

The session then progresses to bring in other scenarios, for example full backs showing opponents down the outside and wide midfielders doubling up with full backs.

Davide Santon’s excellent display at full-back ensured one of Norwich’s most creative players, Robert Snodgrass, had little joy on the wing as he was denied space and time.

The crosses Norwich did manage to get into the area were repelled. This was thanks to good central defensive positioning and excellent full-back play forcing the Canaries’ wingers into areas where it was difficult to provide consistent delivery.

“You only have to look at the number of goals scored from crosses in the Premier League to know why it’s important for us to practise this session,” says Alan

Even if we get anal-ysed and go down with only 1 point, i'll never boo, and will always support RFC. I'd be devastated if McD get's sacked, We need to get behind the team and give them the extra 10% good support can give a player, so we get out of the sh1t.

Living up here in the frozen and flooded North, I will be happy with a good performance so I can at least defend us.
Think Williamson will be dropped if Colocinni(spelling?) is fit. May get some joy if Anita is fullback as he's only 5' 6'' though Perch may be moved there if Tiote is fit.

So its going to be an interesting team selection Saturday, based on last nights performance.

Still can't see McAnuff getting dropped for a league game, not Gorkks for that matter.

May revise my prediction to 1-1. Based on nothing more than not feeling quite as suicidal as I was last weekend.

Reading 1 Newcastle 3

Wailings, gnashing of teeth and putting on sackcloth and ashes. All the euphoria from last night disappears ,crowd silent except for chants of Mc D out,we are not good enough, get rid of the board etc etc.

After last nights positive display i'd like to revise my prediction upwards to the tune of 2-2.

Pog and Pearce - Ba and Cisse for the fat, shirtless wonders.

After last night I cant see us keeping a clean sheet so 3 - 2 Pog x 2 and Alf in the last minute.

3-0 Reading these are the sort of grounds that Newcastle have their off days on. If you think back to the shocker they had at Wigan last year too. Think it could be one of those sort of games for them. Think our season in the prem will finally kick start from here.

Otherwise a tense 1-1 draw.

Will be interesting to see the team wasn't really a player who you could say didn't try. Though HRK will make way im pretty sure.

Demba Ba and Cisse are going to give Gorkss and co such a chasing. Newcastle will score 2 or 3. Reading will be pleased to just get one.

After beating QPR away I think the team will be fired up for this, especially since they beat a full strength Prem team (ok albeit it was only QPR).

Pardew's record at the Mad Stad is appalling and if Colo isn't playing then that means Williamson starts, who's not having the most assured of seasons.

Pog will have a huge say in this one I think, he could be too much for their defence if he's given the right service. Genuinely don't know how this game will go but I think there'll definitely be goals on both sides. Can't wait for this one! :D
