I know what the idiom means...I'm just questioning the syntax.

Surely 'words' don't fail you, rather your brain is failing you when it comes to thinking of words to respond with.

Just a thought.

Having Shane and Gylfi back are not mutually exclusive.

I'd welcome Shane, great contribution to the Royals. He IS a Royal - but he's not exactly set the Premiership alight by leaving us, so he's maybe reached his level, but worth having home, could be good value if the price is right.

Gylfi offers greater promise - a totally different buy / negotiation - and in a totally different role too.

Course, it's difficult to talk about any one in isolation - the whole squad / shopping list, the whole balance and mix of home-grown etc

I'd never become a Jack. Quite like my name as it is.

Having Long back would be great. He is capable at this level, he won't have to 'fit in', he's fast, he's Irish, he won't cost more than we sold him for and he was our favourite player just one season ago. Long, Roberts, ALF and Hunt would be decent.

Also, we didn't exactly splash the money we received for him did we?

8 goals whilst nursing a back injury he has only just fully got over is not a bad return.

Aye, not forgetting that. Long's not shown his potential this year because of his health, but he's still looked electric on the ball. We need him more than Siggs if we go at games with the same mentality next year as we did this.

Re: Gylfi

Don't be surprised if WBA now get involved. They're close to appointing former Hoffenheim manager Ralf Rangnick.

But wasn't he very out-of-favour with Rangnick? He and Siguarsson didn't seem to get on too well, I'm not so sure this would be much of a factor. I might be confusing him with someone else, though.

I think it was Stanislawski who didn't favour Gylfi, and let him leave on loan as he wasn't needed. Rangnick left about 4 months after they signed him from us.
