Got to feel this is a massive appointment for Ruben either way. Stable club since they were bought, bigger budget, a chance to have a full pre season. He has a great chance to get them promoted and test himself in the PL

Flip side is high expectations and higher profile. If he fails, he'll be gone and his career set back a few years.

JedMaxwell Was he definitely driving like an arsehole?

It was on a weekend when the weather was appalling and if no one was around, how can we be sure it wasn't just him not necessarily knowing how to drive a high-performance car and taking the wrong option when he lost control?

GWL in arsehat mode.

Indeed!

From the reports at the time it was just an accident, it happens to people.

Police investigated due to the seriousness and quickly ruled out drugs and alcohol and weren’t looking for anyone else. It had been raining and he lost control (maybe he was speeding, maybe he wasn’t - the police investigation would probably have discovered that but there weren’t any charges or subsequent driving bans reported so I presume everything was “ok” in terms of possible law transgressions).

Most probably it was more down to the sort of car to being driven in wet conditions, had he had a Volvo or something it may not have happened at all - or at least afforded him a lot more protection.

He’ll be a free agent soon, but 35yrs old, so who knows whether he’ll get any interest from league clubs - I hear that after his career finishes he wants to go into “entertainment” so expect him on a tv screen near you soon

Andy Carroll leaves FCGB to return to the UK.

11 goals in 21 games.

The praise from the club for him is really effusive. Unusually so.

Wasn’t it £1k he was on a week at Reading? Seems to be a pretty top bloke who just wants to play.

Perhaps he’s coming back……

The tabloids would suggest ‘top bloke’ is a bit of a stretch.

We got rid of him because he was unprofessional and a bad influence on our younger players. Absolutely do not want him back.

Which seems a bit strange, because both of his clubs in France (Bordeaux and Amiens) have emphasised his professionalism, his positive influence on the squad in general, and on the younger players in particular.

Not saying it would be a good idea to get him back, but his reputation is not clear cut either way.

Despite some of his on-field antics, I only seem to recall positive comments about his behind the scenes presence, but then, I’m not itk.

Andy Rinomhota looks likely to leave Cardiff

Also Cardiff captain Joe Ralls is now a free agent. He's 31 so someone we'd probably not look at, however he started with Aldershot and Farnborough and his family still lives in the area so could move back

Nothing to do with Selles’ inability to deal with differences of opinion with senior players then :?

I don’t think going out and getting smashed, banging a random in public whilst married is a difference of opinion.

Has he done that sort of stuff then? Sorry no clue about what he may have got up to in his personal life years ago, all I know is it wasn’t while he was at Reading, therefore you may well find his character changed somewhat from whatever he was like in his younger days.

Someone of his stature was playing the game for the love of it and taking a greatly reduced wage for the privilege. I think that sends the right sort of messages to younger players and therefore would rather doubt him being unprofessional or a bad influence on younger players while at Reading.

However as we are somewhat detached from the goings on behind the scenes at the club, his influence on other players is something we’ll probably never really know.

It was reported around the time he left.
