Some people seem to have a strange idea of what being a gentleman involves! His conduct at the Waitrose do was not befitting a gent. I have also seen other instances of behaviour that I would not associate with being a gent. Nor do gentlemen need to have their egos constantly massaged.

'Being a lad' might be a more appropriate description but I would prefer someone with a bit more gravitas and decorum as Chairman.

He should either learn to handle the effects of drink a bit better or inbibe a little less.

Not sure it is (maybe it went 50,000ft over my head). Still read it as implying that JM's behaviour was not particularly out of line given the worst excesses of a few others involved in the game. Fact remains that regardless of his and others' conduct he/the club has do not appear to have been particularly forgiving towards boisterous behaviour from fans in the past.
