Oh shut up Jay, he's making a point about how reactionary and extremist everyone is on here, and what small margins there are, not criticising the lad, you 'tard.
Federici has pulled off some stupendous saves as well in his time, yet because he's played the majority of the games this season, he has of course made mistakes (fewer than last season). And those have been on occasion punished.
Suddenly McCarthy comes in and performs somewhere between solidly and great in his couple of games, and people think he's the best thing since Shaka. Over the course of a season he'll make his fair share of mistakes. Federici is still our No.1 and rightly so.
McCarthy has a few more games before he has to worry about his place, and on current performances we can afford not to rush Fed back. But this is essentially just a first brief exposure that will stand him in very good stead in the future.
I can just see the gnashing of teeth and wailing on here the first time he has a dodgy game once Fed is fit. He'll suddenly change to being a pub player and McDermott would be criticised for not bringing Fed straight back in.
