Wax Jacket ...meanwhile the likes of Derby and Birmingham aren't just preparing for what might happen they're getting out there, spending the cash and getting the players (proven ones not SPL hobbits) into their pre-seasons!
The difference is they have to replace a large number of their players, in Derby's case the entire team. Birmingham have lost several of their most promising players and are replacing them largely with players who have one or two seasons left in them. Note that these are two clubs who did a lot of trading last year two and went down below us.

I agree with what you're saying, but on the other hand I do feel that Birmingham and Derby in particular need to do a hell of a lot more strengthening than us.

The fact remains that nobody will have a fecking clue how Noel is going to get on at Reading until he's played at least a season here.

Smoking Kills Dancing Doe Agree with Hoop Blah that you can't help thinking they have signed Hunt cause it's easy.

Still, the more I hear about him the better he sounds, good in the air for his size. I do think Lita will go and we'll sign the other Irish lad. Replacing proven goal scorers with un tried ones is a risk imo, but Coppell's not gonna sign those proven players like Hulse or Phillips.

I'm still not too worried about the forwards as long as we keep hold of Doyle, who should take the league to pieces next season. It's the right wing that really worries me, we need quality out there, but with Coppell in charge I wouldn't be surprised if we start with Kebe, or even N Hunt out of position. Those 4 forwards will need chances created for them, Kebe and S hunt won't do that.

We've got a lot of money to spend, if we sell Harps and Shorey, we'll have even more. We need 3 - 4 players now, Coppell has to bite the bullet and get them. It's alright making a few risky signings, but we can't keep making the same type of signings, like we saw last season.

The club needs 2 or 3 signings to really catch the imagination, of not just fans but the players as well.

Still Doyle, Lita, Long, N Hunt. Not many better front 4s than that in the Championship.

I agree in general but I feel a good quality right winger might be enough to really put us in a strong position - oh and replacing anyone who might go over the next month and a bit.

rhroyal I'm also impressed that we lost Kitson not even a week ago and we have a replacement who I think will do a good job for us, although I don't quite expect him to fill the ginger's boots. It's making me think that perhaps Coppell and the management are prepared for what may happen over the summer and have replacements lined up for any players who potentially leave. Here's to hoping anyhow.

Very good point and I hope you're right!

I agree if Harps and Shorey stay we could get away with just a right winger now. Would rather we signed a stronger midfielder even if Harps stays, but Harps and Marek should be more than good enough for the Championship, if a little light-weight.

Is anyone going to give Noel Hunt a chance? Give the boy a bit of support, I for one will be 100% behind him. I hope he has a long and successful career with us. Good luck Noel.

I understand totally but if there was one criticism of last year's set-up for me, it'd be that there was insufficient competition to keep players on their toes. we don't have to repalce players, we have to get some in from scratch tbh

Sorry but that doesn't necessarily mean that we shouldn't be aiming at similar targets.

It is a good argument why we're not, but it doesn't exclude us from doing so. Doesn't it?

The pot of Premiership Gold and unlimited Sunday Roasts should be incentive enough

As it doesnt look like Coppell is going to sign a target man- this could mean a 4-3-3 next season with

Lita,Doyle and Hunt Jnr up front

Marek, Hunt Snr and AN Other in Midfield....AN other could be Ben Watson

Rosenior Bikey Duberry and Shorey at back

I am sure people will give him a chance, however, I think there is a general feeling of disspaointment at the lack singings and abition shown by the club.

I can't see Coppell changing from a tried and tested formula. I am certain it will be 442.

I think you need to get back to school or you've had a few too many.

I don't think there is a lack of singing at the club. Long has good set of lungs I'm told.

Probably as lack of singing coming from the Managers office though.

It doesn't, and I'd certainly be surprised if our current set-up took the Championship by storm. Still, there are reasons for being circumspect about every one of Derby's and Birmingham's signings. We're in a better position than they are, for example, to take the stance that we will not sign the old and satiated, or spend a couple of million on players with a history of frailty.
