McD explained why they are doing this, from personal experience [he said] - reason being is when a winger is low on confidence his automatic reaction is to cut inside for the easy option as he doesn't want the responsibility to take a man on and get a cross in.

Which is fair enough, but as we mentioned, if he is going to do that you want the full backs to head in to that space giving the defender something to think about.
