Hoop Blah Having just one year left on his contract and what I presume is a relatively low release clause agreed with the club (eg £4-5m not £7-8m) he's in a great bargaining position for those clubs who might've been willing to spend more on a fee for him.

His release clause is an appalling £500k.

If that was the case, he would have been snapped up by now fella.

Anyone noticed that since 1Team has appeared, Royalee has vanished? Coincidence?

Doesn't mean the club have to accept an offer over that, they just have to inform him.

Assuming you aren't talking turd, which is a big if, given Long signed his last contract before his goal bonanza from Xmas onwards, I could believe it was that low.

But given his recent performances and connection to the club + MaccyD, I think it's fair to say Long would be happy to help us earn millions, rather than hundreds of thousands by not demanding to talk to anyone offering less than - for example - £3m rather than sticking to the letter of his contract and pissing off for £0.5m.

Correct me if I'm wrong (and I may well be, I'm getting my info off Football Manager), then if a player has a release clause and another club bids that amount, the club have to accept. If Shane Long has a release clause of 500k, half the Premiership would be idiots not to bid for him and he would have gone by now.

I think the difference is we don't have release clauses specifically, but we have gentlemen's agreements with every player as to what their worth is and at what value we'd let them know a bid had come in and allow them to consider.

That's supposed to be one of our selling points. We can't pay a lot, but we;ve got good facilities, we'll improve you, and we won't stand in your way of moving onwards and upwards for a fair amount.

Snowball I read somewhere that Shane's GF really doesn't want to leave the area.

I've heard that too....

It will be quite a wrench for him having been with the club since he was 16(?) and staying with McDermott. He's got a lot of ties here. His Mum lives over here too and travels on the STAR coaches to the games.

Having said that, Doyle's gf lived and worked in Reading and was reportedly quite happy here and that didn't stop him going to Wolves.

That's not a "release clause" then - that's a "tell clause"

Snowball Hunt could reach 20 if he stays injury-free

I admire your optimism, but doesn't that seem a bit unlikely? Only three strikers scored 20+ league goals this season, and the best number reached by a second striker (i.e. not the team's main goalscoring striker) was 13 from Simeon Jackson. Hunt would need to score almost as many as Long this season. That's not going to happen, not with Long scoring 22+ as well.

2008-09

Hunt got 13 alongside Doyle playing 60 minutes per game and playing 29 (10) less than 2000 minutes by my estimate

If he can play a full season 46 + say 4 and play 80+ minutes that's 4000 minutes... "expectation 26"

2010-11

He played 23 (14) for his 11 goals while coming back from long-term injury.

If he has a good season and starts the season well, (and if he can genuinely play 80-90 minute games)
again, he could reach 20 goals

All this is moot, however, and depends on who he partners, who the wingers are etc

Of course.

All I'm saying is I would really fancy a Hunt-Long strike force backed up by Manset-Church-Williams
provided the service remains as good as this season

If Hunt could only manage 60-70 minutes before his injury (I think 60 minutes per match is fairly generous to Hunt btw, I think he'd have averaged closer to 70 minutes when he started) and constantly looking tired, how likely is it that he'll be able to play 80-90 minutes every match? Also, we were talking about league goals (cup goals don't matter) and alongside Long scoring more than his total from this season.

12 goals from Hunt would be a very respectable total and I think everyone at the club would take that in an instant. Unless he also becomes our penalty taker, or Long leaves and he becomes our main goalscorer, he's unlikely to get much more than that, even if we signed Iniesta to play left wing and kept Kébé. 12 from Hunt and 20 from Long would be excellent, asking for 20 from Hunt and 25 from Long is unrealistic.

How many did Curo and Butler get between them in that season?

How many would Kitson and Doyle have got if they'd played every game together in 05/06?

It's certainly possible, but I'd agree phenominally unlikely, especially seeing as Long is unlikely to be here next season.
