Doncaster Rovers would have beaten it with 3 points a game back in the day.

We will always have the record of 106 for 2005/2006 - no-one can take that away.

If you got 3 points just for turning up. I'm sure we discussed it at the time and the conversion was less than 106

Maybe Man City will get relegated to league 2 and smash the Birmingham record three years in a row.

105 pts from 42 games, so similar to United ones already cited.

I wonder how much the change to 3pts for a win influenced how teams approach games though, I assume teams back then were more likely to settle for a draw because it was comparatively more valuable than it is today.

Good point. I think it would definitely affect strategy.

My bad; I thought I had read it somewhere.

To be honest, I'm not massively bothered about the record going because it in no way diminishes what the 2005/06 team achieved.

^ yeah, it’s gone, I let it go weeks ago, but ours is still the superior of the two (imo, by default of it being achieved in a higher division, that, and only losing the two games) despite it no longer being an EFL record anymore.

Good times for Brum…not jealous….much

The record stood for nearly 20 years. That's pretty good going.

Better than the previous record, only lasted for 7 seasons.

Have we got the record for holding the record? I feel a new chat coming on...

When you think how long we've held the 100% starts record, compared to 106, that looks even better doesn’t it.

TBH it does bother me, but I accept RFC has far bigger issues to resolve.

I think I'm not that bothered because, although it meant a lot to us, it meant fcuk all to 99% of football fans and, to be honest, anyone who does care about it will always have the caveat that they did it in League 1 with a squad that cost £40m.

The real achievement for me is that the 106 team followed it up with a top 8 finish with essentially only 1 addition to the squad.

I’d be surprised if Brum aren’t knocking on the double promotion door with the squad they have.

On the positive side, if we're record watching next season, we only have to watch the Championship after the 13 wins inevitably doesn't get beaten.

Losing this record does feel a little like the football world 'righting' an anomaly, a glitch in the matrix. I may be wrong, but for some time didn't Reading hold the record for most points in a season, best start to a season and longest, in minutes, without conceding a goal?
