I knew they'd had a few domestic cup games but didn't realised they'd played close to 10 in Europe Regardless, the point that appearing in 31 games and yet still being frozen out for most of the season is rather difficult to achieve stands. Given that is still more than half the games Villa played in.

I don't care if I go out on a limb in supporting S Hunt on this one. On the whole he has acted professionally throughout his time at the club and the club state that he still is.

Yes, he lost form (confidence) in dramatic and disastrous style part way through last season but I don't think any fair minded person would ever have accused him of not trying. The trouble was, the more he tried the worse he seemed to play!

Even if he didn't have any feelings/loyalty towards RFC, and I suspect he did, I think he would have felt he owed a debt to Steve Coppell and would have been trying his best for him.

I agree he has tried to play well. But the problem is his motives. Doyle tried to play well so he could get us promoted, he said this himself. S.Hunt tried his best in order to get a transfer and although this never happened in january ,his bitch did give him a bumper new contract. Following this his performances got worse. You can argue that doyle's performances dropped too, but he was playing with an injury and also spent time on the treatment table.
I personally cant wait to see the back of him as this whole season has seemed to be him trying to earn a contract elsewhere and not trying to get us promoted. If he was fully committed from start to finish I would have no complaints. However, when a players form tails off after the last transfer window and a new contract with a lower release clause fee you have to question the player and the manager who wants to keep him.
I've also heard a rumour there were offers for him in january that were excepted but s.hunt rejected them as they were lower tier premiership sides. If this is true then I hope he goes to a top ten team and gets released on a free the following season due to his lack of ability.

I'm pretty certain there weren't any offers in January - nothing more than one or two half-hearted enquiries that didn't match the asking price.

I'm also pretty sure that Rodgers will ensure that if SHunt plays for us he will be a fully-committed and motivated Shunt giving it all for the team - because if he's not got that attitude then he won't be allowed in the team - or even to turn up for training.

It's open to debate in terms of what '...for one reason or another..' it didnt work out means. But to me it suggests he rejected the move which means the club had given him permission to talk to other clubs.

Good post. If he's still with us on September 1st, I'll be backing him as a Reading player so long as he's giving his all.

If he's desperate to leave and he wants to go to the other club then I would think Reading would accept an offer slightly less than the release clause. Plus, is he really worth the alleged 5 million release clause?
However, I suspect this has been reduced when he signed his new contract in january.

There are not too many left siders about and McIndoe was one potential replacement for Hunt but that opportunity has gone. Inside the club there remains Tabb and Kebe but I watched Swindon once last season and was quite impressed with Robson Kanu on loan. Is he still a Reading player?
Not the energy as with Hunt but he reminded me a bit of Steve Heighway with a languid approach and the way he showed the ball to the opponent before going past him. Many young players get to play wide early in their careers and tight against the line they find it difficult to read the game and get on the ball often enough. This applied to Robson Kanu when I saw him but with Rodger`s reputation as a coach maybe this could be addressed. Coppell had a reputation for getting the best out of players, but that and actually improving them is not quite the same thing.
