Not heard about McGugan, but I'd love Commons. Although another frustrating player that gives you the odd good game. But quality player on his day.

McGugan was the player that scored against us for Nottingham Forest. Good young talent, intresting a few Premier League teams. An attacking midfielder.

Southbank Old Boy Totally agree on Tabb IR, but whats your problem with people estimating buy/sell values of players?

Seems like a sensible thing to do as it kind of shows a bit more thought than just plucking names out of the air

I think the 2.5m for Harper is pretty reasonable, 4m for Hunt wont be far of either, maybe a bit more depending what the new manager thinks is the right price for him

because none of us are in the know and it's just total guesstimates. By all means guesstimate in your head to help you work out who you think we might be able to sign. But there really is no point in playing Football Manager on here.

We have no idea what value those players clubs value them at, what our professional scouts value them at, what their wage demands would be... Caluses in their contracts which might affect their value...

Do you see what I mean?

Nope, I think you are just talking rubbish for the sake of it

We all have a rough idea what it might take to prise a player away from his current club, and we have an idea of what we might try and hold out for if anyone wants to buy one of ours. It might not be that accurate, but then one club wont accurately know another clubs valuations until they start making bids either

As this is a board for sharing opinions on the Reading Football Club it makes a lot of sense to share those thoughts and ideas and what you think RFC might be able to afford, and why, than just listing names and people then slagging off those names because you havent shown how you have come up with them

For someone who can be quite reasoned and thoughtful you really do come out with some odd stuff sometimes!!!

Re: Who To Keep, and Who To Give The Royal Wave?

by andrew1957 » 18 May 2009 22:16

Hugo Boss Keep:
Doyle (Can't see him staying but we live in hope)
Bikey (Ditto)
Matejovsky (And again)
Rosenior
Pearce
Duberry
Ingimarsson
Tabb
N.Hunt
Karacan
Cisse
Federici
Henry
Mooney
Church
Armstrong

Let Go:
Hahnemann
S.Hunt
Kitson
Little
Gunnarrsson
Long
Harding
Kelly
Harper

Rape, beat, stone and then shoot:
Kebe

I would point out that you cannot "let players go" who are under contract unless a/ someone offers money for them or b/ they ask to be released and the club agrees.

This means that SHunt, Long, Kelly, Harper and Kebe are either for sale or will stay.

As for me you Kebe is a useful squad player and Kelly and Harding have potential. Harding may or may not be offered a contract as he is out of contract at Ipswich.

But that's all he's done, listed some random names and figures!
If no one was willing to pay £4m for Hunt in the last 3 transfer windows why on earth would anyone do it now? There's simply no point budgeting for your suggestions. It makes no sense.

because we had a £ 5 million clause that said he couldnt go for under that ammount, unless we wanted to

and now we probably want to

They wont be spot on, but I would give more weight to someones opinions if they have shown that they have thought about how much these players are likely to cost us as opposed to just throwing the names in

I reckon the figures originally quoted by Basingtoke are pretty spot on as it happens, at least for our lot anyway (and I see brendy has put you straight on the Hunt fee/offers). We might even be able to get a tad more for Doyle, possibly a tad less for Hunt. I cant see much wrong with the fees suggested for the players coming in either when you compare them all to other players

Basically, considered opinion paying dues to ££££ of players >>> random lists of players

Thanks for backing me up on this. I too thought this board was about opinions......

If everything quoted on here was facts the board would be empty!

Random names and figures??????????????????????????????????????????

The figures are based on offers made for players last year and their likely lower values after a bad season. No one knows the price of any player on here, so figures shouldnt be mentioned until its a done deal - is that what you are saying??????

(And Brendy has just roasted you!!!!) - give up you are boring and dont have a clue.

I'm sure that Kelvin Davies should be available on a free, but apart from that I think your assessement on the potential fee's is pretty reasonable.

Considering the usual criticism of any name put forward on here is that we can't or won't afford player x then an awareness of their values and the kind of money around the club can only add to the debate.

Thanks Hoop Blah.

I dont think their are many better keepers than Kelvin Davis, and in my opinion he would be a great signing. Sorry A Fed!
