The Kebe debate

by Scarface » 28 Oct 2012 00:56

Some love him, some slate him, but the simple fact is I don't think we can accommodate his one good game in 10 in The Premier League.

I was convinced we'd see a hungry Kebe this year, keen to impress on the big stage, but for whatever reason he seems to have lost the confidence to run at defenders at pace and beat them down the outside. He is playing safety football.

Dellor said he offers a lot defensively, not sure I agree and I'm sure Mcleary can do the same. It must be time to start Mcleary again as he seems to play without fear and also offers a bigger physical presence.

Kebe still has plenty to offer, perhaps dropping him will give him a kick up the arse. His place in the team seems guaranteed and that is wrong now we have Mcleary.

Pissed rant over, discuss

I've said this on multiple occasions he doesn't have the technical ability for the EPL.

Many people have sat here slagging off the CM's, but you need your wingers to able to pass and Kebe simple can not perform in the EPL.

Not only is he scared to take someone on, his crossing is simply woeful.

McCleary should be starting but one bad game against Spurs and he's out. Always does something when he comes on, likewise with HRK. McCleary is more direct than kebe and doesn't mind getting stuck in or munched

Scarface Dellor said he offers a lot defensively

Says it all - the moron who pushed for the now manager of Liverpool to be removed says the most overrated player in our squad incapable of putting in a challenge is good defensively. Now we're in the Premiership can we bin him and have proper commentators?

Have to agree. Kebe was woeful today, just didnt want to take anyone on, why?!!

Im a Kebe fan but even my patience is wearing thin. Id give mcleary a go but then again mcleary, le fondre and kanu seem like good options as super subs at the mo

I don't really think Kebe is good enough, or perhaps more importantly, consistent enough for a Premiership club that by the looks of things will be in a season long fight to survive in this division. When there were all the shenanigans about him signing a new contract I was a bit puzzled because I would be mightily surprised if he was being coveted by any Premiership clubs. However, he seems like a lovely chap and there's no doubting whatsoever his ability and I would love him to do well at Reading in the top flight. I dunno, it's difficult, I'm thinking maybe give him one or two more games to perform but that would be it really. The fact of the matter is RFC can't be arsing around with testing the waters with players now, and certainly not ones that are on the field on the off chance they'll have a blinder.

I think he is good enough it's his attitude that's all wrong the length of time it took him to sign a new contract last season clearly indicates he doesn't really want to be hear for larg chuncks of the first half of last season he blew hot and cold and it's no coincidence that Kebe's better games last season were just before the January transfer winddow opened. One thigs probably certain had the club not been bought out Kebe would IMO of almost certainly left.

Good player yes, but he does not play to his and the clubs advantage. Nearly every cross comes in in front of the back four, he has speed but plainly refuses to scare the crap out of defenders by using it on occasions where there is the space to do so. As a result he is disappointing in most games as, like yesterday, he tends to slow it down so he can try and beat 2/3 players rather than kicking and running into space.

I remember what Michael Gilkes used to do to full backs and to be quite honest I'd rather see a Gilkes in his prime in the team than Kebe.

As to the future well I'd look to see if there was more to be got from Kebe by playing him centrally rather than on the wing.

I cannot think of a single aspect of the game where Kebe is better than Mcleary. I found Dellor's praise of him after the game yesterday jaw dropping. Eulogising about his defensive work when, from where I sat, he was running about aimlessly as we were being totally overrun in the second half.

His one strength is his pace and he chooses not to use it anymore.

Rubbish - sorry Gunter has looked no better than Cummings.

As for Kebe - he is one of the few that could do something quite special. He is exciting to watch & can get the crowd going. I do agree he isn't back to his best but I think he is carrying an injury & isn't 100% yet.

I am going to stick up for Kebe here seeing as no one else will.

I do like McCleary too though & also think he deserves a start. Tough one - Kebe isn't really an impact sub IMO.

Agreed, however his chemistry with McCleary going forward was causing sides all sorts of problems! In comparison to Cummings and Kebe...? Er...
