With this season's attendance we'd be about 7th in L1, even crashing to below 10k would put us top 10 attendance. And if we had a good season we could maybe make top 5.

We've got the skeleton of a decent team for L1.

If we were to stay up we'd need about 20 new players. So much harder anway.

I usually am pretty optimistic about stuff, but it's far, far easier to get 20 Championship quality players when you're playing in that division, with that budget, rather than 15 players on promotion calibre in L1 when the budget and squad quality isn't at the top.

This seasons attendances I'd expect to drop in L1 and no, I'm not suggesting we are on a par with those sides. But why join Reading, a club going backwards with a squad not near a promotion challenge when you could go and play for Derby who are probably only a couple of players away from being promoted? A skeleton of a team is being kind, we will have no goalkeeper, Yiadom at RB, possibly TMac and Sarr, no LB, no midfield at all, possibly Azeez on one side and Ejaria on the other and Carroll up top.

Not suggesting we will/should go down, but sitting in the dregs of League One is shite, however you want to dress it up.

Under restrictions where we are paying less than what a National League club can for players and less than likely many clubs in League One as well, not just the one's going for promotion either, I mean clubs that are sat going nowhere in League One.

Unshackle us from those and we'd stand a far better chance of building an ok Championship side that would survive rather than a promotion-contending League One side. The latter is not impossible, but far more difficult than the former.
