I actually had a quick scan through this thread earlier this afternoon. Quite fun, but I was too polite to requote anything.

Hey AP, I'm getting a premonition of deja vu here*... you reckon there'll be room for another oveRReaction thread in a couple of years time?

(At least I never had to eat my words about Leroy LOL Lita.)

* Now there's a concept for a book...

Federici is crap, our third-best keeper, and Harte isn't good enough for the Championship.

And Long? Don't get me started...

Woodcote Royal
If Federici is the best in this division he must be one of a very poor bunch that no one deems good enough for the top flight.

Poor old Woodcote.

Boy am I glad I usually show a fairly reasoned approach to these things. He's been brilliant this season.

I remember screaming for Feds' return last season and getting loud abuse from the usual suspects here who use abuse to cover up their cluelessness.

If we go up, it's tonight's save and that one-on-one save against Leeds by Feds that will be highlights of our success for me.

Definitely a big reason for our rise and definitely one of the best keepers outside the Prem.

On current form (this season) without a doubt the best keeper in this division!

As one of his biggest critics I am happily eating a large slice of humble pie tonight. He made some immense saves against Brighton, and the penalty as well.

Pretty tough picking a player of the season this season.

Anyone of Feds, Pearce, Gorkss or Karacan for me.

Only tonight? Where have you been the last 5 months?

Refusing to praise him just in case it all goes wrong... but with a 6 point lead I feel it's time to come out.

He has had a great, overall CONSISTENT season, I think real test will be next season. Not sure whether he will step up to the plate or not

BMcD heeped praise on him last night saying he was the ultimate pro and had been since the very 1st day he walked into the club.

I think the beauty of RFC is that he could probably say the same thing about everyone at the club now. Bad apples don't last long here.

I've said for years that I suspect we put more into assessing people's characters before taking them on than most other clubs. Whether or not that's correct we don't seem to get anyone who's a bit flaky.

Although he talked in football cliche speak, after the game Mullins echoed what has been said before that there are no egos at RFC - no moaning and whinging when not selected, they are a real team. Particularly mentioned Alf coming off the bench to score 2 then not selected for the next game.... not an issue, he's part of a team.

He's always been a great shot stopper. Previous seasons his positioning has been a bit suspect as has his command of his area. He's also had a tendency to drop half a dozen clangers a season.

You'd be really hard pressed to find an example of him dropping a clanger this season. The best you could do is find a few where you can argue he could or should have done a bit better. He's commanded his area better. His positioning's been better and he's carried on pulling off world class saves.

He's made the step up he needed to. Feel sorry for McCarthy, who is also a great keeper, proving his quality at two clubs at this level, and has been kept out by Feds in superb form.

Maguire Might as well throw in my tuppence worth:

He looks in great shape and great form at the moment - totally untroubled by playing at Championship level at the moment, definite improvement on a couple of years back when I thought he looked fatter, didn't command his area and had trouble getting down into the corners.

The stop from Austin (?) on Friday was a good illustration of a keeper coming out and dominating a forward like Schmeichel used to. By the time he shot there was precious little to aim at. Save from Nimely against Cov was stunning, of course.

Unflappable and undroppable at this moment in time.

Sticking with this

He's had a very good season, no doubting that.

I haven't seen anyone picking holes in his performances of late (he spilled a relatively simple one during the Leeds game but their forwards didn't react quick enough), and that's largely because he's done everything asked of him, and done it well. He's cut out the majority of his mistakes and has had some excellent protection from the team in front of him (although to be fair he's come up trumps when they've been less tight in recent games).

I'd still rather have had McCarthy at the start of the season, but that was more a long term thing than thinking he was the better keeper for the now.

He's another player that you could put up an argument for Player of the Season though, so he's had a very good season and keeps improving.

Excellent keeper but still likes to make (some) saves look better than they are (esp on TV)
