If we genuinely bought out the 10% clause for 200,000 Euro then that is a better piece of business than the original purchase !

Back then we spent £100k or so in a gamble on an unknown player, this time we've probably made close to a million on a player who I suspect is going to be comfortably worth £10 million by the end of the season.

Your football knowledge is astounding, only someone truely ITK could tell us that one day Doyle will leave the club.

Thanks for the insight.

Next summer, Kevin Doyle will be a Premiership player with or without Reading FC. That's a given.

Lets just hope we go back up and he stays here.

a current realistic value for doyle is 6-8 million... that's what a middle rank prem club would pay. top 4 wouldn't be interested in him , they want their 12-20 million players , as a good will gesture to a quality feeder club , i think we should pay £500k

I think they're in desperate straits, aren't they? They even announced the imminent Mooney cash in court in order to stave off the liquidators, before the deal had even been officially done.

What is the point in paying them the maximum now? I suspect the figure would be half that. CCFC had the choice to wait and get £500k-£600k if he moved, maybe, or cash in now and get £200k-£300k for sure.

Good summary on the Cork Forum. As is pointed out there, Doyle could easily stay with us until at least 2010, _if_ we go up, or even move on a Bosman in 2011. Or he could get a bad injury. Hence there's no way we'd pay 10% of his current estimated value now. If you want quick money, you have to take a hit; but it's a gamble holding out for potential anyway.

if we were planning on selling in jan , why would they accept a lower price now??
they are desperate for cash
not selling doyle in jan as they expected we would, will leave them short of banked on cash
we give them cash now, which they need, and in return they relinquish rights to future sale proceeds

But what if Doyle does a Sidwell and leaves for nothing in 2011.......we've then wasted cash on buying something we didn't need to!

Both sides are weighing up probabilities. There's a good chance that Doyle will leave in the next two years, either _if_ we don't go up or _if_ we were relegated again. There's the possibility that he could suffer serious injury, or (shock horror) we could do well enough to hold onto him until at least 2011. Nobody knows. Cork have decided one in the hand is worth two in the bush, basically.

its not wasted though is it
it may well keep our feeder club in business until they can support themselves!
