RG30 Biggest surprise for me is he’s got a 4 year deal.

Pleasant surprise I hope.

Really nice to see that not only have we signed a sort after player for the level but we have tied him down to a deal for the whole of his peak years - he'll be 31 when the deal ends. Means, for a change, if he performs well and a club further up the pyramid wants him, we can get a fee or we should have a solid performer who will end up with 150 plus apps to his name by the end of his deal.

Nice to feel positive about a deal for a change.

But then as they are supposedly his peak years you’d presume his remuneration package would rather reflect it :o :?

Probably - he was allegedly on just under 3k pw at Lincoln, so imagine we are paying him a decent mark up on that and a signing on fee, but certainly not massive wages.

Complete finger in air, and I take that Lincoln figure with a large pinch of salt, but £5k would not seem unreasonable for a senior important player. Maybe even 6 or 7.

I guess the 2 risks are ripping the club off for crap players like Jiaroobcian, but also not giving impartial advice to his own players.

Obviously I'm delighted we signed O'Connor, and I think S. Hunt will have genuinely considered us the best opportunity for him. But equally, his perspective will be influenced by his experience at the club and his relationship with Noel. Would he be objective enough to recommend another club over us?

I would imagine it would depend on who the other clubs are/were and what they were offering. We have offered him a deal that takes him up to his 32nd birthday (July birthday) on a likely significantly higher wage and he is likely to start as first choice.

Other clubs further up the chain may have offered more cash but not necessarily the same contract length or status in the squad.

Yeah, it could be argued he has a better chance of regular championship games if he can get promoted as a pillar of our defence than trying to compete for first choice going into a current Champ side.
