Ian Royal Top Flight You quite like the 5-3-2 or 3-5-2, however you want to call it, don't you Ian. Both 4-3-3 and your system have worked well for us this season depending on who we've played. We are able to switch between those shapes very effectively at the moment.
It plays to Obita and Gunter's strengths, reducing their weaknesses. We have plenty of quality centrebacks and central midfielders. It helps us squeeze the pitch when we don't have the ball. It should help stop us getting caught out with split centrebacks and fullbacks past the halfway line if there's a turnover in the middle of the park. And it's relatively easy to make a tactical switch to go more attacking or more defensive.
I agree. Gunter was sensational playing in that role at the Euro's for Wales. It does bring out the best in Gunter.
We're in a good situation at the moment tactically. Stam can change things up depending on how the games are going and to counter different threats from different opponents. Our players have matured considerably over the course of the season from a tactical perspective and have become good in various systems. That must give us an advantage going into the play-offs.
I think Stam might go with a 5-3-2 against Fulham if we draw them in the Play-offs. I think that's what he did in the game at the Mad Stad when we beat them 1-0. If I remember correctly.
