Doolittle I know it's tough right now, but I do wish Nigel would stop thinking it's not an issue to play people out of position. It didn't work last season, and it's not working now.

Surely he'd already seen enough before today to know that Taylor is not comfortable on the left wing, and that Obita should not be playing CM.

We would have had a better chance today if Akpan had played alongside Kuhl, with Obita replacing either Cummings or Taylor on the left.

Playing lots of youngsters is one thing, but expecting several to cope with playing in the wrong position, when we don't have to, is just asking for trouble.

This. Akpan for all his limitations is at least a central midfielder. Obita isn't.

First time I've seen us play this season. An entirely abysmal effort from Reading. You can excuse the youngsters being poor but you need senior players to step up; Chris Gunter you absolute f*cking melt you utterly failed to do so.

Just one point on the merits of playing people out of position, our player of the season was a young lad played out of position for pretty much the whole season.

Whilst I agree that he's doing too much of it and seemingly not learning from players failing when doing so, it does sometimes bring success too.

Adkins is a slow learner. Last time I saw Obita in centre mid he was weak as p*ss and we got rolled over.

Amazingly, we sign a midfielder who is fit yet leave him on the bench, play Obita centre mid and use Shaun Cummings - consistently awful for us and barely able to get in our team for two years - out of position at left back. Remember tho, this is the manager who said "a full back is a full back and should be able to play either side".....this is presumably why Ashley Cole and Leighton Baines regularly appeared in the England side together :?:

Even Reading fan last week concluded that Obita should never play midfield again, yet somehow Adkins still thinks he should. To me that is just incompetence.

Badly in need of a quality striker with some pace and LB/CB. Taylor and Edwards not really good enough to be starting in the Championship. The pick of the young players are obviously Kuhl & Tanner and they should stick around even when we get the other players back from injury. The team now are sticking to the Adkins passing model, but we need key players back and probably 2 signings for it to work and for us to really compete in the top6.

Fed- 6
Gunter- 4
Hecto- 5
Pearce- 5
Cummings- 6
Kuhl- 7
Obita- 6
Blackman- 7
Edwards- 6
Taylor- 5
Cox- 4

I thought it was a bit mean of forest to play adults against us. Kuhl was hopelessly out of his depth today but has so much potential. Hector was the best player on the pitch, but it might not have been the same pitch as everybody else. He should be captain.

Wow, its amazing two people can watch the same game and come to such different conclusions. Kuhl was the only ray of light after that performance and Hector was constantly getting outwitted and outmuscled by their striker

Only positive for me was Kuhl. He looks like he's been playing for years at this level. Top player in the making. He'll be gone for silly money within two years.

Watched it online and listened to BBC RB.

Actually didn't look too bad in terms of possession, passing - certainly not the sort of performance that would have the fans booing.

Gunter's had a shocker that's cost us - again!
Obita should be on the left.
Taylor - not really in it.
Kuhl - good again, shame he couldn't finish that chance.
Blackman - best game this season.

Cox fluffed a great chance that Edwards gave him. That and the Kuhl opportunity could have meant a different game.

Defensive errors were the order of the day again though.

It's funny how forgiving people seemed to be of Hector - both today and against Huddersfield he made some pretty big mistakes, but some people still nominate him for MOTM. If your team loses 4:0, no defender should be MOTM ....

Or our player of the season was a young lad who became a revelation once we discovered his best position? (From what I've seen Obita certainly looks more comfortable at left-back than anywhere else, and definitely more so than he does in central midfield.)

I think Adkins picked the wrong team today. We need to have some width down the left in at least one of the two left-sided positions (which would most obviously be provided by Obita) and Obita and Kuhl always seemed too lightweight as a central midfield pairing, though I'm at least glad that he started with Kuhl who has probably mean the main positive factor of the week.

Only watched the game online.

I thought Blackman was one of our better players.

Gunter had a mare, great athletic player but has the positional sense of Rosenior.

Hector is starting to believe in the hype, get back to basics, the pathetic clearance/pass against Huddersfield was a perfect example.

Obita can play centre midfield but he needs a decent player to his left or a left back that supports.

Do we know how bad his injury is ???

Swap the two around and you might be somewhere close...
