super darren caskey
From Despair To Where? Leigertwood is pretty decent in the air but is more of a stopper than a creator. Begs the question, can he play CB?

I wouldnt fancy seeing Ledge losing the ball that near to our goal tbh he would be ok back there if he just hoofed it when he got it but Adkins likes the passing game more.

I was thinking more that, with only Pearce, Mariappa and Morrison with any significant experience, Leigertwood would possibly be adequate as cover and the younger centre backs like Hector and Sweeney could go out on loan

Danny Williams - where and how will he fit in?

by ImReadingTillIDie » 25 Jun 2013 18:15

Obviously with another CM having been signed someone must be on their way out - Carrico, Leigterwood? Will Williams be starting?

Should fit right in as I don't feel we have any other struggle pigs in the team at the moment.

Carrico has struggled ever since he got here!

Someone is definitely on their way out now, my guess would be Legs.

That would leave us with Guthrie, Williams, Karacan and Akpan for 2 spots. Which is more than enough.

Some odd opinions on here.

Karacan and Guthrie will be grand in the Championship (not sure how it's a "different prospect" than two years ago).

Carrico has shown nothing to suggest he'll break into the first team.

Akpan to me is probably a squad player at best.

I really don't understand all the Leigertwood hate on here, it's utterly bizarre. Have you all forgotten how he played a pivotal role in winning us the title? I don't think he'll feature much next season as he's past it now (wouldn't be surprised to see him move on) but he deserves a lot more respect.

So overall the signing of another CM makes a lot of sense to me; we're light there.

Agree with Maguire, some very short memories here. He probably is past it now, so we can let Leeds have him, but he was a colossus for that promotion season.

Legs has been brilliant for us, but if he is to stay and we go up he'll be
3 months off his 32nd birthday at the start of the Prem season 2014-15

Clearly he won't be in Adkins plans for the Premiership (if we go up!) so,
even though I rate him very highly I would doubt he'd be a first choice
too often this coming season.

If a quality, still-improving player like Williams is the alternative, it makes sense,
especially if we can get 750K or so for Legs

Whenever Ledge plays well, we win. I just think that the relationship has been damaged too much with the jeering off vs. Aston Villa, and with our depth in CM I don't want to see him not getting the game time he deserves.

My love of Legs is long standing and well documented. I get the feeling now is the time for him to move on. Great player who I have fond memories of watching, and whilst I'd be very happy for him to play 46 games next season, I don't think we need him any more. He should probably be playing every week, which doesn't look like it is going to happen, and we have other players who will be willing reserves (Akpan).

Looks like we're going to be playing a 4-3-3/4-1-4-1, unless we ship a few central midfielders out. On that basis, I don't think we'll sign another striker or an attacking midfielder (then again, I didn't think we'd sign a winger or a defensive midfielder...). It doesn't look like Jake Taylor or D'Ath are going to get a chance this season either, and in Taylor's case that will probably mean he'll never get one here.

WoodleyRoyal Dont understand the akpan love in :| he's played a handfull of games and looked ok. It amazes me how short people memories are, how can anyone make a justifiable decision that akpan is better than ledge when akpan has played so little?

I remember Ledge's strikes - v Fulham or v Leicester etc. I remember Akpan's v Wigan when it was 0-0 :(

And now you can throw Danny Williams into the mix.
