2 world wars, 1 world cup It's exciting I give you that, certainly INFINITELY more exciting than Eamo getting in. I definitely don't want to be negative. But can you blame me after what we have been through over the years? The men who betrayed us owed so much to us, yet were despicable. This guy will owe us nothing.

I do want to believe you, so I'm all up for positivity but to laugh it off as you are concerns me. You have to at least admit its a tiny concern, even if you are quite positive it will be ok in the end.

I know you're a good chap winch, so I don't want to flame you, and I certainly don't want to be dragging this up in several years. You of all ppl I don't want to be gloating at!

Of course nobody wants to lose a successful manager, but if Poyet does come and gets us to a position where he is offered the Chelsea/Arsenal job then we'd be in for a fantastic 2/3 years and we'll have a real foothold to establish ourselves with the right appointment after that, like Swansea did with Laudroup. We're a small club, and any manager that brought that kind of success would have bigger admirers and would follow the same course of action. I'd worry about hiring any manager who wants Reading FC to be the pinnacle of his career, as that to me suggests a clinical lack of ambition.

Yes, if he joined then I'd prefer it if he didn't go round whoring himself out. But I don't think he's been doing that, and those are just a couple of quotes taken out of context.

We'll see I guess...this will most likely end up being a pointless discussion anyway.

I see what you're saying, even if I respectfully disagree and still have concerns. You're right after all this we'll probably wake up to Bullivant being given a second chance. At least he never left us for a bigger club! :p ;)

adkins........ just.

for the simple reason that I have enjoyed highlights of soton more than brighton. I get the sense that the more tika taka style of poyet will not go down well with a majedski crowd who have since the millenium (with one notable short exception) lived well on tradtional 442. adkins wont be as direct but his teams play inventively and he also gets the best out of passing midfielders - something we havent seen for many a year.

but wont be upset if poyet gets it - but have a sneaky feeling he'll turn it down.

Either would be great. Poyet would be good and it would be easier to attract big names with him in charge, but I cant see him leaving brighton.

Atkins would be great as he got soton up through 2 divisions in 2 seasons playing great football. im still not convinced soton's new guy is doing a better job - next season will see if is a good manager or just riding the crest of a wave and benefiting from the new players now being fully settle in.

Agree with this and think it highly likely that the new man at Saints is getting the benefit of Adkins' signings having properly settled into the team and style of play.

I didn't warm to Adkins when we were up against him last season (he certainly doesn't have McDermott's immediate likeable personality) but would welcome his appointment now. That having been said, I have a slight preference for Poyet.

Report in the Independent suggests it is a done deal with Brighton having accepted a 2million pay off.

Personally would prefer Adkins. Far better promotion record than Poyet and even though Brighton are doing OK, they are hardly tearing up the Chump. Also think that Poyet is looking at us as a stepping stone to something bigger. Not saying if Adkins was successful he wouldn't be tempted if a bigger club came knocking, but I do not think that would be his major motivation for accepting the job...can't say the same about Poyet.

Then again, the last manager we got from Brighton wasn't too shabby.

I have gone for Poyet from a football style perspective. Whoever gets the gig, however, will need to be given time to stamp his authority and disciplines into the squad. This has shades of BR all over again though with the difference that there should be money available to rebuild the squad. Time will tell.

Poyet, simply because of the quality of player he can attract to a club.

Adkins >>>>>>> Poyet

Don't understand all that chatter that Poyet can attract a better class of player. Where's the evidence?

Plus really do not see how Poyet would think we are a better proposition than BHA. They seem to have all the necessities now in place for development and progression.

Err Vicente? Taking a proven (albeit injured) Spanish international from a world class club in Valencia to Brighton is quite a large chunk of evidence.

Most of them were attracted by big money, Brighton are hardly a small spending club these days.

And you think we wont be doing the same next season? There is only one reason Poyet would join us, and that's because he's been promised even more money to spend.

That is an assumption, not a fact
