Gunny Fishcake
robbieroyal Leeds defended well against Kebe to be fair. At one point there were 3 on him.
Every game a cup final. We should start our strongest line up, our players are fit enough!!

Think Harte is def out for Tues. And Jem and HRK obv.

Think Mullins at RB, SC to LB. Benit on wing and Jobi in centre??

Harte was fine in car parrk after game , he'll play

Our players shouldn't be dogging so soon after a big game.

Aren't Brighton the dirtiest team in the league?

Another very physical encounter is looming.

Royal Lady
Ian Royal Left back = Harte > Mills > Griffin > Gunnarsson

Central midfield (assuming Jem and Tabb are out, which seems likely to me) = Mullins > Gunnarsson > Cywka > McAnuff with HRK / Cywka / Afobe / Hunt out wide.

If Ledge is out too we're in the doggy doo.

I was referring to this. As much as I've loved Gunnarsson, he's a lot older and slower than when we went up last time - Cywka should be given a chance imo.

Agreed, but would you want Cywka to replace Jem in the middle of a 4 man midfield? If you are talking about direct replacements for Jem, then wouldn't you agree that Bryn is a better option? I wouldn't rule out Cywka coming in against Brighton, but I'd suggest we might change formation if he does.

I am worried about Hartes rating as only "fine". Has Fishcake had better experiences?

Royal Lady No way is Gunnarsson better than Cywka. :|

Cywka is an attacking midfielder / winger with at least a slight reputation for not being very strong and for giving the ball away in dangerous positions. Gunnarsson is a reliable defensive midfielder who would fit the current playing style. Therefore defensive midfielder > attacking midfielder, regardless of actual player quality.

Bridcutt and Razak are hardly going to give a big midfield battle though, Ledge can deal with the physical side (which they'll be trying to avoid), we don't need another defensive option alongside him like Bryn or Mullins. We need someone with a good engine who won't give them the time and space to pick a pass. The ideal solution in my mind is McAnuff in the middle with Cywka out wide.

According to my sources, Brian's just going to assess the injuries and make a call on Monday.

it's just occurred to me that we still have Howard on the books as well. I'd completely forgotten about him. Whilst he's obviously on his way out and isn't wanted anymore, he's still a better option in the middle than playing a winger there IMO. And TBH I'd prefer him to Gunnarsson as well these days.

So we do actually have plenty of cover in central midfield.

Like most other people I suspect, I had entirely forgotten about Howard!
He hasn't got near the bench for months, so I would be surprised for him to make the squad for Brighton.

If there was more chance of Howard playing any role against Brighton than hell freezing over, the likes of Mullins would not have been brought in on loan.

Whatever Brian elects to do tomorrow, McAnuff is light years better than Howard anywhere in midfield and, with many options still available out wide, would get the nod well ahead of Howard whose best skill appears to be passing the ball to the opposition.

Howard at least still turns up for games, was with the other players on Saturday. I'd happily have him in a 5 man midfield if Ledge is also out.

Cywka is not a central midfielder! His main position is on the wing, and can play in behind the striker. But 100% not a central midfielder. Hope i have cleared this up for the Reading fans with poor football knowledge.

Probably best not to then, Jeff. How about a nice song about the Royal Pavillion instead?
