roadrunner 12/13 I think. We hadn't long moved into the Madstad, were facing relegation to L2 and then a load of East Standers stayed behind calling for him to come out and answer questions. We were told he was abroad still and may as well go home... :?:

And off you trudged.

There was a small protest just out of sheer desperation and being so disillusioned to what was going on at the club at that time. The crowd called for the chairman to answer some questions, he was abroad, the crowd dispersed.

Wycombe Royal If you are going to make an accusation like that you need to at least back it up........but I doubt you will be able to.

Wycombe, I think if you do a bit of reseach, you will find that JM went to live in the Far East for 18 months at the time he sold Auto Trader to 'minimise his tax exposure' in the UK. I would imagine that is what Tamworth is referring to.

And how many years ago was that?

Wycombe, I would have thought as a long time commentator on all things Madejski, and a poster who is fond of ‘definitive’ statements on the subject, you would have had to hand all the relevant details of his 18 month ‘tax exposure’ sojourn in Malaysia. Particularly as he saved himself (and cost the British Revenue) a significant amount of money.

Same old same old. Same people were saying Madjeski didn't want us to get promoted in '95 and right up until 2005 when they looked really fricking stupid. A few of years on and their tiny tiny minds have forgotten about that and they've returned to the same old shit.

I don't recall Tamworth posting on here much when we were winning the league / finishing 8th / almost going back up. He's just another retarded Dodger.

At no point in that article did I read the words, 'Madjeski confirms forget Premiership'

Obviously it is every teams dream to be able to play in the Premiership and if you get promoted why shouldn't you be paid more? You've done well, you deserve to be rewarded. Even Brian post match thoughts this evening confirmed that Reading do want to play in the Prem again; You huddled the players on the pitch at full time, what did you say?
I just said to look around the Stadium, this is the kind of place we want to be playing every week. I just said remember that, and we can do it, I'm convinced, we've got a great bunch. I said to look at the fans behind the goal, what is important is to remember it and use it to kick on.
The Chairman gave you an embrace after the game, what did he say?
He just said how proud he was of the players, the staff, and if we keep doing what we're doing we can achieve something.

I do agree that some players get paid ridiculous amounts and something should be done about their wages, but for a team like Reading, anything we do achieve should be rewarded. What Brian and Sir Madjeski have said post match, confirm the opposite of this thread title imo!

JR I think he is right in what he says - and his view is widely acknowledged.

Bit shocked the football league thinks it is appropriate to go to cyprus for agm - surely that makes them hypocrites if they are discussing overspending!!

They are always taken abroad for their AGM by Thomas Cook as part of a sponsorship deal, so it's no cost to them.

So where will the FA AGM be held in Cyprus and on what dates in June?

It won't - this is the Football League.

Madejski on BBC Berks this morning saying he is looking forward to promotion and the lads deserve it, good run of form and good set of players. Asked if he will invest(not personally) if we went up he said that if areas needed spending on then RFC would do it.

If we do go up this time then we go up without the debts of that last run, so technically we should have more cash to spend.

We should be able to budget for longer too, as will be extra parachute payments in the future.

It has been shown that spending a lot guarantees nothing tho, better to slowly build the Reading way.

But in a much more expensive market.

Madejski's pockets, by his own admission, just aren't deep enough. I hope we go up for a year or two and if /when we drop again manage to bounce back at first attempt. "Doing a West Brom" is the best we can hope for. A year in the sun followed by a year of success, all the while strengthening the club for hopefully a longer stay.

The Bolton and Wigan models just don't bear thinking about. If Wigan come down they'll go out of business.

Cardiff have bet the mortgage (and then some) on going up this season. They'll go bust in the summer if they fail.

I like what Madejski stands for - I hope the League listens to him in Cyprus.

After yesterday, West Brom and Everton i don't see why we can't go up and hold our own up there. Every time someone mentions promotion around here people are saying we aren't ready - these three performances beg to differ imo. Of course the boys were fired up cos it's the cup etc but with a few new faces (which would be brought in i'm sure in the event of promotion) we could most definitely survive. The Man City interviewer on their OS when talking to Mancini stated "Reading are better than a lot of Premiership sides we've seen come here" or along those lines with Mancini agreeing. A big push for the Prem now and i'm confident we can do it - forget Premiership my arse!

This hasn't even been that slow a build.

Hooray for the academy and our scouting system.

Currently we are too one-dimensional and have too many players who treat the ball like a hot potato when closed down to survive in the PL with the current squad. But hell, yeah, get a few new faces in (Doyle maybe, when we swap places with Wolves? ) and who knows....

Personally I think we need another year in the Championship to really get ready for PL football and I think Long will stay to help us get there.

Cummings, Manset, Morrison, Karacan at Rt back?, Robson Kanu, Antonio, Church, Pearce - none are really quite ready for PL football imo, but as we haven't seen the best of them yet, another year in a winning and more consistent team would help get them ready, or show if they never will be.

I agree, I think when Rogers was in charge it was mentioned that the club actually had a 4 year plan of which we are only in year two. Still plenty of time.

Whilst all the above is 100% spot on, doesn't it just make you a tiny bit sick to the stomach that this is what "football" has become?

^^ This, gone are the days when Liverpool,Derby, Forest could go up and win Division 1 a season or so later, we'll NEVER see those days back and that is a genuine genuine shame.
