Diddyroyal even if you take him out of the equation there is others as mentioned, how can you argue that bar injury, Kitson would be picked over Owen?

Where have I said he would ?

In fact, if you look up the page you will see that I think he would make a very good partner for Owen.

We all know big clubs and their players get a lot of priority but that didn't stop Shorey pulling on an England shirt.

We might be a relatively small club but these days we play in the worlds richest league where our players can't be ignored.

If Kitson maintains his current form it's more thaan likely that he will get his chance, especially with a new England manager who will surely want to spread his net far and wide.

I think over the years that Capello likes a big target man so with only Heskey and Crouch and possibly Ashton in the frame (not exactly a trio to strike fear into foreign opposition)I genuinely feel that our Dave has a real chance.
To compare him with Owen is just plain stupid as it would be to Rooney or Defoe-totally different types of striker and as I said at the very start of this topic there is no great choice just as there isn't for keepers or full-backs.

fair point, but tbh will Shorey get another chance? i personally thought it was disgraceful that he was dropped after playing the two games, he did nothing wrong, but they were friendlies, it shows how high they rated shorey when it came to the games that mattered

Or, our Nicky wasn't the player he was last season and when push came to shove McClaren opted for Lescott.

Stranded If Kitson continues scoring and playing to his current standards then it wouldn't surprise me if he gets a run out in one of the friendlies England will have between now and September.

Don't be stupid, he will never play for England, in fact I would go as far to say it is very, very unlikely too....

Where's diddly - the voice of reason gone...?

So many experts....

I still stand by my original statements, however i believe a national team should be picked on players that are playing regular and playing well, England dont always do this, they tend to favor the 'big club' players, regardless of form, you only have to look at the Croatia game where Shorey got dropped for a certain CB?.

Rooney, Owen, Crouch, Defoe, Bent, Agbonlahor, Nugent, Ashton, As fantastic as he is playing now, would he be picked in front of any of these? i doubt it.

Im not slagging him off at all, just pointing out the reality of the situation

trouble is it's your reality and not THE reality......

Did anyone else get anoyed with Kitson's body language toward his team mates on New Year's Day?

There were a few occassions when a pass wasn't made to his satisfaction that he stopped running and started waiving his arms about. On two of those occassions, subseqent action meant he could have picked up the ball if he'd continued his run rather than stopping to show his frustration.

Perhaps the press attention and "Kitson for England" is going to his head? Maybe he's frustrated that Chelsea is rumoured to be after Doyle rather than him?

Of course, we could always plant the rumour that Tottenham will be in for Kitson once they lose Berbatov to Man U or Chelsea

There was one instance I saw like that towards the end of the game. I think it has more to do with the fact that he's twice had to play the majority of a game upfront on his own and he was absolutely knackered!

Well done Kits for a sterling job over the festive period.

Maybe he was just fed up with being a lone forward against 4 defenders and getting regularly taken out with no fouls being given.

He is only human.....

The main time I saw him frustrated was after Murty had just been clattered. The ball ran to Kitson tight on the East Stand touchline, with a Pompey defender right in his face.

The ref chose to play advantage rather than give us the freekick, what advantage there was to us. I don't know

Kitson for England?

I know it's only the News of the World but nice to see he's recognised by the media as the current top ENGLISH striker in the Premier League. always though he could do a job for England purely because of his unique style of football which a lot of International teams would hate to play against.

He might need a new song!

He has been one of the best English strikers in the Premiership for a good few months now, if Capello picks him, it will be deserved.

I'm surprised but good luck to him if picked. He has been terrific this season.
Does raise his profile though so we will have to watch out for other clubs. A pay rise beckons in the summer

There can't be many players out there that started at a non-league club and went on to win England Caps, can there?

Ian Wright and Stuart Pearce are two that immediately spring to mind.
