Uke I agree , all it does show is how many points the sides have got since the window closed.
How else can we measure the efficacy of our total transfer window spend compared to other teams in similar positions for this season? Can you think of a better measure?
Nope, but my point is that it is unmeasurable.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that I prefer to form an opinion on what I get to see with my eyes instead of what a meaningless table of points or collection of stats will tell me.
I'm thankful that our side has managed to accumulate enough points to be a lot nearer to safety than we were at the end of January despite our inability to address some glaring weaknesses in our squad. I'm also pleased that, despite a couple of shrewed purchases in Taylor and Chaill, Bolton's fortunes haven't improved enough to keep us in the bottom three (that was always pretty likely because they couldn't hope to replace Anelka's goals which they relied so heavily on).
What I've come to conclude since the transfer window is that we got one pretty good player in Matejovsky who's had a positive effect on the way we've played. Other teams around us who stumped up more money to attract the players they felt could improve their chances of staying up have had varying degrees of success. Players like Cahill, McFadden, Reid, Bardsley, Zarate, Savage, Carroll and to a lesser extent the likes of Taylor and Hangeland have all had a positive effect on their new clubs fortunes. For some it's been enough to drag them clear of relegation, for others it's been nothing like being close enough.
