NathStPaul Didn't we get Ian as an official option on a Reading FC managerial odds list once upon a time?

Might have dreamt it tbf.

That was no dream... some might say a nightmare but Ian Royal was really listed on a betting site a couple of managers ago

Hendo New manager odds, especially for a club of our size, can't be read too much into. But Wilder has just gone straight in as bookies favourite at 1/3

Always get more interesting once a candidate is odds on.

Be interesting* to know how often a candidate has gone odds on at 1/3 or higher and not been appointed.

Reckon it's purely down to a load of Reading fans requesting him to be added to the market.

I wouldn't read anything into him going in at 1/3. For a start the market will have a very small L2L (lay to lose) limit of £50-£100 max so anyone betting on it would move a price instantly. There isn't another firm offering it.

As for the Wilder rumours himself, no other credible national journo has run the story so far and the account that reported it isn't even followed by any other journos so are we sure they are even legit? Besides, the Premier League season is still ongoing and with vacancies at Southampton, Leeds, Leicester and possibly West Ham this summer no manager of his status would commit to a League 1 club now when bigger jobs will be available in a few weeks.

Ignore me, misread and told a different irrelevant story.

Ah no it wasn't on here, it was on Twitter. Wasn't Ian either.

We made up a name and then within an hour about 15 people tweeted the betting company to ask for odds on this made up person. Low and behold they made the betting list at around 40/1.

I got BetVictor and Sky Bet to put Ian up on a couple of occasions.

Looks like he went it at 10/1 back in 2016 :D

If the rumours are correct and we've entered talks and he seems interested, let's just get this one over the line. Given all the names that have been mentioned, we aren't going to get a higher calibre manager than himself and would, on paper at least, be our best appointment we have made in a decade (even better than McDermott v2).

I know his last couple of jobs have been underwhelming, but this is the best possible chance he will get to build and work with what he wants. Ironically, whilst he is exactly the type of manager that you'd probably give 2-3 years to build something, given his calibre and reputation I can imagine he'd be under huge pressure if we were in the bottom half/mid table at the halfway stage of the season.

He's currently 1/3 on with the bookies if you hadn't heard.

Would point out that Gary Bowyer has just left Dundee a few days after getting them promoted. Can only think it is for a better job elsewhere.

And Blackpool seem to been in a phase of only appointing managers who have managed them before.

If I got it, I think I'd have had a decent shot at not being our worst performing manager, even if I picked the team by numbers and told the players to just have fun.

The 1871 podcast has an interview with David Artell (33/1 for the role), I have to say I'm impressed with his understanding of the game and how you have to have the right manager to fit the style of play you want to see, Plus what he would do on his first day in the job (ask the players what their favorite biscuit is - trust me, it makes sense in the overall context on the interview), Plus he talked about all the big teams in League One who were relegated all had financial mismanagement as the main reason.... he's also the first person I know of who had actually heard of Veljko Paunović before he got the job.

Worth a listen.

I wonder if they plan to interview everyone on the bookies shortlist :D

God no. He’d sell the whole team and pay Joao £100k a week and play a 0-0-1 formation if he could.

So it's because of you putting their noses out of joint that they fcuk around with our fixtures and only show games on the red button in blurry vision?

No brainer for the betting company, add a name people are requesting and take the free money from them, potentially snare them as new long term customers as well.
