CountryRoyal Not sure what was worse, the referee or this insistence on setting up like we are doing away from home. It’s painful and I don’t care if the scoreline is close, defeat is entirely predictable. If Burnley could finish the game would have been over in the first half.

I don’t agree with that we more than matched them in the first half. Second they were on top plenty of pressure but I don’t remember to many clear cut chances. At one all it was us looking the more likely to score. And that was a stone wall pen. This is a side just down from the Prem with parachute payments a manager on a big salary, and a much bigger squad. All the players they bought on would start for us.

We do need to cut this shit away from home as well. We aren't a good enough side to sit back like that

Apparently, with a reasonable decision for the penalty we would have been exactly good enough

Well yes, but we've thrown away leads 3 times in a row away from home....

At least two of those games those leads were massively against the run of play and out of nothing.

We absolutely aren’t you’re right but we make it even harder for ourselves with the selection. Ince is the only player that can keep possession and drive us forward but he can’t do it alone. Meite is fantastic at playing on the shoulder and breaking the line but that only works if you have through balls from the midfield or exceptional (fortunate) long balls from Lumley (who was pretty crap today) or the defence.

Long is the only striker we have that can trap the ball and get us in more dangerous areas. He needs to start, especially if we insist on this horrific “game plan”.

Burnley fans saying we were one of the best teams they have played this season. With a competent ref we win that game

Awful awful decision from the ref. Embarrassing

Sounds like a half decent away performance against top of the table side other than that

I don't like our tactics but they nearly worked against a good Burnley side. I hope we don't use those tactics against teams like Hull and Birmingham and we take the game to them.

We did well today, even if we didn't play sexy football. Very disappointed we lost that

Royal_jimmy Something Paul Ince said stuck with me in that he thinks the EFL want us to get relegated. I'm starting to agree with that.

Why is someone from Lancashire allowed to referee the game?

Did he actually say that?!

Kompany has just said it was a clear pen, very rare for oppo manager to say that. it's usually "I didn't see it clearly" or maybe "I've not see it played back"

I guess though it wasn't any worse a decision than Hutch's volleyball punch at QPR, the difference is I guess that didn't potentially cost any points

There were 691 of us today at Burnley. A terrific following for a long trip given the state of the economy. Made lots of noise too

Not exactly, as I think he realised he'd already got himself in enough trouble with his comments about the officials. However, he didn't completely dismiss the notion that the EFL might be wanting to make life even harder for us on top of the existing published sanctions. I think he said something like 'I wouldn't go as far as to say that there's a conspiracy but at times I can't help thinking that maybe.....'

To be fair that handball was a penalty as well I wouldn't have complained if they got it

Referees are wrapped in about 3 condoms. Why should they be immune from abuse from managers. They make too many mistakes and deserve all the criticism they get, refereeing has got so bad over the last few years, the odd mistake is fine, I screw up in my job every so often but referees are getting basic decisions wrong and it needs attention from the FA. If Ince gets in trouble I'll lose it big time

Would a referee from Newbury be allowed to ref one of our home games? I doubt it.

That penalty decision is a joke. Honestly, it seems like we have a terrible official every week in this league. It's the second highest professional league in the country, it cannot be that hard to find good referees. Absolute shambles.

Would genuinely be interested to know the reason for not giving that - did he think he got a touch, it was a dive etc? Mind blowing
