RoyalBlue And LOL at all those who think they are better judges of Gunter's ability and performances than successive Wales team managers and a couple of Reading managers!

I would like to see his stats for tackles made ?

Winston Smith Bond makes me nervous. Is that the standard of goalkeeping at this level and we have just been spoilt over the last couple of decades?

The guy is 22 made just 9 appearances at Championship level. Can only get better. Like many of the team.

I don't make him responsible for either goal, in fact he's kept us in games, unlike Oops Habsi !

You obviously choose to ignore the 3 outstanding saves by Al Habsi when Neil Lennon and his boys came to town? Or are you just a biased idiot?

Gunter makes the fewest tackles per match of any regular full back (>10 appearances) in the Championship. He also gets dribbled around fewer times than any other full back in the Championship. He's 46th of 50 at interceptions, ahead of Charlton and Blackburn's full backs.

Meanwhile, out of all left backs in the league (with 10+ appearances), Obita makes the second most tackles. 3.3 a match, beaten only by Dean Lewington at MK Dons. He's only 17th for "times dribbled around" though. For every four tackles Obita makes, he gets dribbled past once, as opposed to one in six for Gunter (or one in five for Taylor).

Conclusion? Opposition teams see that we're playing a young midfielder at left back, and an experienced international at right back, and decide to target our left flank.

Sutekh 1. John is a your typical winger and therefore prone to going missing on occasion when defending that is the way with wingers particularly the more flamboyant, I would expect some improvement there however once Brian has had time to get things together on the training pitch. Also John was taken off due to a pulled hamstring and not anything else.

2. Yes a bit of a mystery that one.

3. For me Hector is a defensive midfielder and merely competent as a central defender. Agreed the criticism of him is a little over the top esp. given his age but then as he's now a Chelsea player I don't think people are willing to cut him any slack and would rather see Cooper learning the game than yet another risky moment from Hector. Personally I hope he does really well when he leaves Reading and makes something of himself, shame he's not going to be able to do that here due to the car crash of a defensive squad Clarke built.

Agree about John-there was a clamour on here for him to start after his good cameo last week but he does look like being another Mass Saar or Rougier and as you say, a typical winger.
Regarding Hector you excuse him because of his age (23) but at random these are the ages of some centre-backs:-
Phil Jones 23
John Stones 21
Chris Smalling 24
Ben Gibson 21
The first 3 of those have had a number of England appearances and Gibson is playing a big part in 'Boro's success.

Hector is not a 17 year-old kid and is now a very experienced player having played on occasion for 11 (?) clubs.
He is just a player with attitude and often his first movement is to push a player or to try to nick the ball in front of the player and doesn't seem to realize that it is dangerous giving free-kicks away near our area.
We know that he has a lot of ability but at the moment is a very immature 23 tear-old who may , with the right coaching, eventually fulfill that potential.
He also should get away from Gunter who clearly has been giving him diving lessons but unfortunately is not very good at it himself.

Believe it or not he's paid to make saves, he also contrived to let them back into a game in which they were dead and buried ! He let the team down on more than one occasion, shame Bonzo was injured we wouldn't be in this mess ... Biased as in stating the facts yep

Wonderful stuff, I thought it was remarkably few he seldom gets close enough to tackle or get dribbled around !

Just look how many crosses he lets come in. It would almost be excusable if he carried a strong attacking threat, but he doesn't.

Gunny Fishcake Good game three cracking goals.

Brentford deserve credit, unlike us their team was exactly that , a team , who died for their shirt and played well and wherever well organised.

We continue to frustrate , there is clearly something missing , I think there is a deep rooted problem with this set of players who think they are far better than they actually are, and Brentford exploited that perfectly.

God knows what's happened to Blackman he's gone from world beater to his old self sulking and rarely in the game I think he's being played out of position far better in the middle.

Hector very poor, and maybe the suspension will give Cooper a chance

To think we've lost two games over Christmas and those tossers Wolves have won two shows how poor we are at present.

Bristol City a must win for the teams confidence as well as the fans who deserve a medal for the last three months

Very astute post.

You choose to ignore your own comment then - "unlike Oops Habsi". I have demonstrated how you were wrong and you fail to respond to that, instead you go on another red herring rant. I think we can see what level of intellect we are dealing with. I am out.

And now the 'experts' on here throw around a load of stats to try to justify that they really do know better than successive Wales, Forest and Reading managers when it comes to judging Gunter's ability and contribution to the teams that he plays for.
