Just maybe if a few that are not members had mates that were then they would soon find out the bits of interest from the Forums, just saying like.

melonhead as the fans organisation, i just thought that conversing with, and representing the fans should really be what they are all about

is all

Indeed, but it doesn't have to be done on a forum where a small minority of supporters will abuse, criticise and dismiss their every effort. Often to get a "laugh".

The world of RFC supporters does not revolve around HNA. In fact most of them wouldn't dream of joining or reading such a forum. Indeed I suspect the majority have never even heard of HNA.

Maybe, maybe not. No one is saying it should or does revolve around HNA - but there are plenty here who, if they saw that STAR genuinely acted on behalf of the supporter, rather than a "member" - might be more inclined to join. Also, recent comments on here by Starliaison regarding the very low import they apportion to HNA and the fact no-one from STAR wants to interact on here, doesn't help.

You assume everyone lives near Reading. I don't even know another Reading fan let alone one who lives locally enough to attend. That's what happens when you are brought up in the Midlands for the majority of your life.

Maguire How many members does STAR have?

As in actual members, not euphemistic members.
They measure their membership in terms of coaches.

Notes of last night's Fans Forum.

Below is what I learnt yesterday that was of interest :

Jason Roberts is clearly media trained and very slick at avoiding answering any contentious questions by giving nothing away
Nicky Shorey is very quiet and lives a double-life as Mr Football Cliche man. He also wants to play football as much as possible
Ian Harte loves his kids, is very enthusistically Irish, and goes to bed early.

Cypry I understand your point, but I'm a STAR member, as, apparently, is Cpl Jones, and neither of us appear to have received the ESTAR mail that was used to publicise the event......

I hadn't mentioned it before, assuming it was perhaps because of the kerfuffle over the previous Fans Forum, or possibly because I am a new STAR member this year and didn't make the mailing list in time....it does, however, appear that I was not alone in not getting this invite, so you have to wonder how many STAR members actually did get it.....?
There could be many reasons, formatting, or keywords leading to it being flagged as spam, but looking back, it seems a bit odd that I've received six ESTAR messages since joining in June, but not the one about the 5Live event......
Perhaps numbers were limited, and, anticipating a big response, the mail list was deliberately limited for this event - that's fair enough. What seems a bit odd is that it was publicly stated that the ESTAR was sent to STAR members, yet it appears that this may not be strictly correct...

I have two possible explanations

1. Your both blacklisted, in your case for leaking the fans forum, in the case of Cpl Jones possibly because he asked asked an unscripted question at the fans forum.
2. The person sending the e-mail didn't have the most up to date membership list

Explanation 2 sounds quite plausible, so I will give STAR the benefit of the doubt. You should flag this up though so that you and others don't miss out on future opportunities.

Never forget option 3 - spam filters stopping some mails getting through.

Given that I host my own mail service and run the filter myself, whilst keeping a relatively close eye on filtered mail for false positives, it's always possible I missed it in the filter, but on the whole unlikely - suspect option 2 is more likely

its still a pretty large segment, and cross section, of RFC fans, that are easily reached for communication purposes, all in one place
in that respect its probably the best place to do it.

as a public organisation they really should have the nuts to be able to put up with a little ribbing

imo

I once went to an accountants fans forum with the Reading FC accountant as the guest speaker (you did have to be a CIMA member which cost more than £10 and didn't include any coach travel), This was quite informative - SJM certainly did run a tight ship.

Andy Hughes (for the benefit of the prem newbies, he was a former Reading player) was there for general football questions and one of the accountants asked him if he had looked into offering financial services similar to Glasgow Rangers  ... funnily enough, he hadn't.... although in retrospect, with what happened to Glasgow Rangers it might not have been such a stupid question after all.

Can't believe they put Shorey up for this.

I know most footballers aren't all that bright but he strikes me as being particularly dim.
