Pepe the Horseman Derby 4/1 to go down again. How likely is it they start with another points deduction, assuming they don't go bust?

I think it's very likely at this point.

What do you know that the bookies don't? 4/1 seems generous, is this a put your house on it job?

What are our odds of going down and also finishing 24th?

I can't see us surviving next season. We've just got too many signings to make and we can't get the quality in we need, no chance. I said it in May and I'm going to stick to it, I'm sticking £250 down on one of relegation or finishing bottom, and the consolation for a shite season will be a new car next summer. Easy money, sadly.

You wont be getting a new car with your winnings. We are 11/4 to go down.

Feck. Well 2 new tyres then... or 2 tanks of petrol.

I think it's very likely at this point.

I'm sure I've seen somewhere that if they haven't exited administration by 30th June the next points deduction is mandatory
Can't seem to find anything definitive in a web search
(Can someone please either confirm that I'm still vaguely sane or that I've made that up ?)

My answer was to the question of whether they'd get a points deduction, not if they would be relegated again.

Well, obviously they only went down this season because of the points deduction. If a new owner does come in a keeps Rooney and most of the players on the book i'd say that promotion was more likely than relegation.

I think I've seen that as well, although I thought it was something like the 24th June, so may be varied depending on sources. Either way, I think they are knackered next season, if they even make it that far.

Haven't they only got 5 players on the books?

And we're barely in a better position minus the stability of ownership. We will be joining them in the third division in 12 months time (unless they drop again).

We are in a far better position than Derby, it isn't even comparable.

Nothing set in stone but this is probably our most important transfer window since we last got out of the third tier. If we haven't made any signings or contract extensions by the time the players are due back for training I will probably be quite concerned.

I'm not so sure we are, in terms of on the field matters anyway. Off the field, yes we are streets ahead of what they were 12 months ago as they've been looking to sell the club for a good long while at that point and they've had players on wages that far exceed ours (I think Tom Lawrence was earning £35k+ according to some reports).

But in terms of on the field, we are quite similar. Lack of sellable assets, good players but limited numbers and basically looking to plug gaps with available players, rather than improve the squad like what 90% of other clubs in this league will be doing next season.

We have the ability to sign players, yes they might not be very good but we can at least cobble a squad together and will be starting the 2022/23 season in the Championship.
Derby on the other hand are completely paralysed as it stands. That coupled with all of their off field drama would indicate to me that we are in a far better place.

That isn't to say we might not end up in the same situation they are in time. At the moment the two clubs aren't comparable imo.

Tbf, it's my error I've read it wrong, I thought the original post was going back to Derby 12 months ago, rather than Derby today. Yes we are miles better off both on and off the field today, although little point comparing us to them now, the better comparison would be 12 months ago when we were competing at the same level with similar-ish circumstances.

I just don't see how we get out of this mess without a visit to League 1 and so I have put £100 on at 11/4 for relegation. Those seem generous odds to me - about the same as Bristol and Birmingham, but unless I am missing something both those sides will start with much stronger and more settled squads than us.

Not sure about the much stronger squad than us because we don't know what our squad will look like come game one and that could still change as the transfer window closes some 5 weeks after that as well, so we will be a fair way into the season before we know what our squad will be like until January.

I don't see us being much worse off than most/every team that finished from Bristol City downwards next season. I don't think any of Cardiff, Hull, Birmingham, Bristol City, Rotherham and Wigan are any great shakes and there may even be others such as Stoke and Middlesbrough that may end up hauled in if FFP takes hold there and Preston have been tipped to struggle as well. Huddersfield and Blackpool may end up towards the bottom as well. That's potentially 12 teams there (including ourselves) that could end up looking over their shoulders for one reason or another.
