Alan Partridge Personally I'd like to see Nugent. Young, proven in this league and definitely got something to prove. Looks surplus to requirements at Pompey but would certainly improve the team nevermind the squad here.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a few people move on from the current squad and fingers x'd Reading manage to go up I think we could almost have a revolving door at the end of the season.

I think Coppell's interview sums up the current squad quite well. The improvement of Federici means that a keeper probably isn't a priority in the short term, although long term I think a replacement for Hahnemann could be on the agenda maybe at the end of the season. It's all based on what division Reading are in, if they go up the defense is going to need serious surgery. Again all ifs and buts.

If we don't lose anyone we don't want to lose then 1 decent forward will be all we need for this season. Obviously if Hunt leaves then another winger would be on the agenda as well.

According to the BBC, Everton are eyeing up Nugent.

runrunrunrungilksey I rekon it's Surman & Fryatt that the club are after!

I can't see it being Fryatt. If he's holding out on a new contract, it would be to go somewhere bigger than us.

sportinglife.com have gotten this from somewhere, sounds good to me!

COPPELL LOOKING FOR STRIKERS
Reading manager Steve Coppell has admitted he is keen to take more firepower to the Madejski Stadium when the transfer window reopens.

Reckon we are after Tommy Smith from Watford.

The club need to sell and we could afford the £1 - 2 m price being touted.

Smith has already scored 12 goals this season and can play on the wing or as a forward. An experienced player he would be able to come into the side immediately.

Still reckon we are interested in Surman and possibly Hreidarsson now out of favour at Pompey.

Surman and Smith sound likely candidates, Hreidarsson not so.

I think Hreidarsson is a probable if the deal to bring Surman to Reading includes Pearce plus cash- plenty of experience and able to play left back as well which means Surman being lined up as a replacement for Shunt

Franchise FC The likes of Lita, Noel Hunt, Sidwell, Little, Convey, Rosenoir were all players that we signed with the intention of them being able to step straight into the team. You can add Duberry to that list as well, if only on a short term basis after Sonko's injury.

Must admit i disagree with a lot of those. First of all Pardew signed Sidwell. Sidwell was signed in Jan played about 3 games and then didn't play again until the end of the season. He needed time to adjust

Even though we all knew Lita was out of favour. He was still given the nod ahead of NHunt at the start of this season. It took ages for Liam R to displace Murts. Convey hardly improved the first xi. He didnt perform for about a year.

None of these players were signed in Jan apart from Sidders which highlights the problem with this transfer window, in that clubs wont be willing to let their best players go.

I still don't think we will sign anyone this Jan who will improve the xi. I hope we do but cant see where he will come from?

HANG ON !!! Somebody needs to learn how to quote. THIS IS NOT MY QUOTE

Only thing with Smith is that he's not really a striker, plays right wing more than anything and doesn't really offer us more than we've got. Good player but I don't think he'd be a priority.

I know many Reading fans have Pearce pinned as the real academy star, but I have my doubts over his ability to cope at the top level, due to an alarming lack of pace for such a young fella. Any deal bringing Surman to the club will bring a big cheer from the W_R household.

agree jury is out on pearce
but id still like it to be here where he is judged

surman would be great, but id 100% prefer a deal for just cash, rather than lose pearce
and see no reason why that couldnt be done just as easily

While not exactly pouring cold water on this one the EP does say that no transfer activity is imminent and any business will only be progressed if SC makes the decision to do so.

Thoughts are in the paper that we're after a striker and winger though - and mentions Jay Tabb as a possible.

As ever with Reading expect absolutely nothing to happen and you probably won't be far wrong.

Although based on most transfer windows you'll be 2 or 3 players wrong at least !!

Has to be the most ridiculous statement ever that any transfer activity will only be progressed on Coppell's say so. That's different from any other dealings then is it Mr Ive ?

Same. I'd rather go for someone else or give Convey a chance.
I'd like to see Reading hang on to Pearce, Karacan, Henry and Bignall. (Bignall because he's extremely young and looks promising!)

Coppell will never learn his lesson. We went 2nd and now he'll think the squad is good enough and stay loyal to the players. Will he ever learn that in the modern game you need to try and improve the squad every transfer window. Coppell out.

shu'p!!

he s on record himself about needing at least two players every window to keep things fresh
and there isnt a january or summer window in memory where he didnt buy someone for us

surman and tommy smith would seem like a 1st team improvement to me, if thats really who we are after
