Next up another god awful Thursday night “for the telly” affair that everyone hates (except for all your better halves as it means you can spend the last weekend before Christmas doing the important Christmas shopping stuff with them
So are we all ready for an evening giving out early Christmas presents then, as that’s probably what we’ll get based on the last couple of performances.
Not that you’d think Luton would need any help being, as they currently are, a side just 3 points adrift of the play offs but then form hasn’t exactly been award winning for the Kenilworth Mob in recent years. Two years ago they were enjoying the absurdities of VAR for a short season, then last year they were rinsed and flushed straight round the Championship U-bend and into the third level sewer where Jack Wilshere’s
Of the last 8 league games Luton have won 2 and drawn 5 so another difficult to beat outfit that’ll probably frustrate everyone on the night. However their last league away trip was a 5-0 stuffing at Oakwell so when they do collapse it seems to be spectacular. Since then they’ve had one further away trip to draw 2-2 and lose on penalties to Fleetwood in the FA Cup, followed by a 2-2 draw at home to bottom of the table Port Vale last Saturday.
Midfield is where they excel with nearly all the scoring threat emanating from that area, in particular from the likes of Gideon Kodua and Jordan Clark in addition their higher profile players of George Saville and Jerry Yates are not ones to forget about either.
Luton, like Reading, have one player, who more than likely would not have played anyway, absent due to AFCON duty for Zimbabwe, with Marvelous Nakamba joining Andy Rinomhota for their Moroccan adventure next month. Reading also have a string of injuries, or perhaps they don’t, we won’t know for sure until the day unless LR suddenly decides to blurt something out for some unfathomable reason after telling everyone he doesn’t talk about injured players. Meanwhile the Hatters have 3 injury doubts; Alfie Doughty, Elijah Adebayo and Jacob Brown.

Historically
It’s been pretty even overall between the two clubs down the years, the last league meeting was the “Carrollgate” 1-1 draw in Reading back in April 2023. Otherwise Reading have won 16 and lost 6 of their 26 home league games against Luton
