windermereROYAL Everybody is exploding about this news, Can`t say I`m over the moon, but let him prove us all wrong, this has got a Paul Ince appointment written all over it.

Had Paul Ince won League 1 Manager of the Season or the League 1 title? Must've missed that.

Feels like almost the exact opposite of the Paul Ince appointment #noIanRoyal

Agreed sounds absolutely nothing like the Paul Ince appointment

Sounds like a well researched appointment with a particular style in mind

Of course it may not work but I’m pretty encouraged by it. The guy knows how to create a successful team and has done so previously

Obvs this is selective and can’t give the full picture but scanning round some YouTube highlights from Wigan in 21/22 lots and lots of crosses and headed goals. Quite a few long shots as well

Certainly from the 5 or 6 I watched it wasn’t tippy tappy or trying for through balls.

Charlie Wyke, then Will Keane seem to have been their main forward. Both 6ft2 and strong in the air

I get the impression we targeted a big old school CF on deadline day and failed. We simply don't have the players to do this. If we get crosses in the box, I think Marriot is smart enough to find space and make near post runs even if he's not the biggest, the bigger challenge is working the ball into good crossing positions.

Should suit Ritchie and Lane down to the ground. Not Marriotts game at all. Maybe MoM will be better suited to that style - who knows. Not sure what his game actually is. Kelvin occasionally shows glimpses - the goal vs Northampton for example. Abrefa a decent overlapper and crosser as is Ryan. Not so much Jacob or Dorsett from what I’ve seen

But yeah think we’ll need a new striker in, and a different CAM option. Maybe Fraser if he isn’t crocked as Brogue suggests

I think its very MOM goes back in January.

I think the sort of approach being discussed could work quite well with a Marriott - Ehibhatiomhan combination up top.

Marriott leading the line as he does now, looking for those near post low balls, getting in behind, pull backs etc. And Kelvin sitting deeper in the hole, maybe getting some longer ball flick ons toward Marriott, and arriving in the box from deeper, nearer the penalty spot hopefully free for the higher ball headers.

We need to get better at the far side winger attacking the far post and crosser picking them out too.

The same Fraser who according to Brogue is not injured?

Yes. Last I actually read in the last week or so about it was:

Liam Fraser has been dealing with multiple injuries, including a significant one that required surgery for an adductor tendon and sports hernia, which will keep him out for 12-16 weeks.

You mean the injury he got last year whilst playing for FC Dallas

He had one last season too? Must be a recurrence

Yep and he should be removed from being a pundit for that load of nonsense. I’m not even going to quote any of it

Liam Fraser has an undefined knock to his undefined, he is expected to be undefined for an undefined period.

So that’s that clarified at last then.

That's an opinion based on a 5 second look at his Wikipedia page.

Anyone else want to admit they hadn't heard of this guy 24 hours ago? I certainly hadn't.

A bit quick to conclude he is Paul Ince mk.2

May be underwhelming, but as others have said, he's got a L1 Championship on his CV so can't be all that bad. And at least this appears to have been planned and thought through, unlike the majority of our appointments in the last 10+ years.

I was certainly aware of him but wasn't aware of the extent of his managerial/coaching CV.

I was aware of him too but mainly due to the way he spells his first name

I do find myself warming to the idea of Richardson after hearing the context behind his record, very good League One season with Wigan before being sacked after a crap start to the season in the Champ and then took over a shite Rotherham team in the Champ and couldn't really do much to stop them being shite.

Hopefully we get the Wigan League One champions Leam Richardson, not expecting him to turn it around and get us to a shot of promotion this season after the start we've had though.

In fairness Coppell's record prior to RFC was mixed; a good first spell at Palace (2nd, 3rd and 4th spells being poor) and did very well at Brentford - the rest being somewhat variable.

All those screaming "Hunt Out" either in the stands or online, who are now writing off the new man before he's even started are idiots. Building some sort of identity to how we play is key, and the real missing piece from what Noel offered, but I'm not a West Ham fan so I won't be looking way back into the past (through rose tinted specs) and castigating a manager who's not even taken a game for us yet.

Whilst it is of course very unlikely, some people are talking as if we are cut adrift at the bottom rather than just 4 points off 8th (9 off the play-offs) with over 30 games to go. If he gets the team gelling and on a run there is no reason why we can't find ourselves in the mix for a play-off spot.

...and since the shit show of the opening 2 fixtures, we've not lost a game by more than 1 goal which tells me that, whilst we're not getting a lot right , it's pretty fine margins across the board. Its an identity and mentality problem which seems to be one of Richardson's strong points.
