RoyalBlue On Monday Rob Couhig said that he would rate the level of football in MLS at high League 1 /lower half of Championship. I was surprised, that as an American, he rated it quite that low. However, subsequently speaking to someone who knows both MLS and the English leagues really well, they concurred with RC's view.

That being the case, it would seem that Derek Williams is probably the level of player we should be looking at, particularly given our circumstances.

Given his previous would suggest he’s a very decent fit and has the experience the younger players need around them. Can’t see him adding much by the way of any pace into things though. Him and Ritchie could be vital to being able to see some games out.

He played for Atalanta on Saturday so is presumably match fit too.

I’m not especially in favour of bringing in another experienced CB but he seems to tick the boxes if that’s what we are choosing to do

I think we need another experienced head whether its Williams or not.

At the mo, we realistically have Burns, POC & Stickland seen as first choice CBs with Dorsett seen more as an LB who can cover CB - Yiadom could too.

As we've seen, with 1 of those 3 out, the other 2 pick themselves and an extra CB will also allow us to play 3 or 5 at the back as needed.

Left footed so would add a nice balance although looking at his wiki page he's probably better than L1 football unless he's desperate for a move back to the UK.

This sounds a bit like O'Connor might be more broken than we realise?

Would've said we needed someone with a bit more pace if we were going to sign another CB, and Williams ain't that.

Would be disappointed in the club if that's the case, would have expected a communication delivering rather more accuracy and concern than "injured knee back in 3 weeks".

I agree. Play moves faster in MLS but League 1/Champ has more technical ability.

Agree, we could use a body (although who thought Stickers would be starting this time last season, maybe Duah or someone else will step up too), but I'd be prioritising pace over experience... I know O'Connor's the only properly experienced dedicated CB, but I'm increasingly not that fussed about experience.

None of our best recent defenders have been experienced. Bindon, Mbengue, Abbey...

Brogue It’s Derrick Williams…

Wasn’t he a youth goalkeeper with Reading back in 1986? Very highly rated at the time and had England youth caps, think he went off to Watford or somewhere after a couple of years.

Found him! 1 appearance v Boremuff in the freight rover in January 1986.

Understudy to Gary Westwood I think during the 13 wins season

Yep agreed (and Holmes and McIntyre seemed to get worse the more experience they got…)

Dann and Dean weren’t exactly roaring successes from recent similar signings - but hopefully this chap will do alright if he does come

Well if it ends up being Derrick or not, Hunt has mentioned a new player coming in this week - so will be interesting to see if someone arrives later today/tomorrow.

Myself and Brogue don't just throw out names here on a whim. Our trust has been hard-earned with club insiders.

If we say it's Derrick Williams then it's Derrick Williams.

And if any deal breaks down or doesn't get announced then it's usually due to last-minute goalpost-shifting by the player/agent which, sadly is incredibly common in this industry,

Be grateful folks - we should be charging for this info.
