To have a decent season (around playoffs with 77 pts) you need to get points as follows -
Top 6 - draw at home lose away - 5 from this group assumign a top 6 finish)
Second 6 - draw at home draw away - 12 pts from this group
Third 6 - win at home draw away - 24 pts from this group
Bottom 6 - win at home win away 36 pts from this group
Of course depends on where your team sits in the table at any one time (and also how the table changes over time - e.g an early season away win against an, at the time, top six side is 3 pts better than expected but when that team is in the bottom 6 at the end of the season its only par) - can use this technique to predict the final finish place if you can be arsed to keep a weekly record.
After yesterdays performance against Boro we have 13pts but should have 18pts as follows
Sheff Utd away expect 0, actual 0, variance 0
Bristol home expect 1, actual 0, variance -1
Leeds away expect 0, actual 3, variance +3
Villa home expect 1, actual 3, variance +2
Norwich home expect 1, actual 0, variance -1
Preston away expect 1, actual 0, variance -1
Boro home expect 1, actual 0, variance -1
Fulham home expect 3, actual 1, variance -2
QPR away expect 1, actual 0, variance -1
Milwall away expect 1, actual 0, variance -1
Hull home expect 3, actual 1, variance -2
Brentford away expect 1, actual 1, variance 0
Birmingham away expect 3, actual 3, variance 0
So just need to beat Cardiff and Ipswich away (for example assumign they stay in the 1 st and 2nd six respectively) to recoer where we should be
