StevenLFC Hello everyone,
My name is Steven, and I am a member of the Liverpool forum Red & White Kop. On our forum, we have a feature called Spyin' Kop where we get the thoughts of opposition fans and I was hoping you could answer the following questions? Thanks in advance.
1. Sorry to bring it up, but Reading currently sit bottom of the league, 8 points from safety. Is that gap too big to overcome?
Yes. Beyond half an hour at Chelsea in the 2nd game of the season, I've always assumed we'd be going down, and there's no way we'll win the minimum of 4 or 5 games we need to stay up. Only three teams going into administration could save us, and even then it'd be touch and go.
2. The Powers that Be at Reading decided to make a change at replace Brian McDermott with Nigel Adkins. What did you think of McDermott's reign, was the change justified and are you happy with the decision to pick Adkins?
Brian performed something of a miracle to get this side promoted, let alone as champions. The team just isn't good enough by a long chalk, and complaints about his tactics are like blaming the victims on the Titanic for having a poor swimming technique.
However, he was chief scout last time we were in the premier league, and he failed to find any good players, and this summer he again showed that he wasn't able to either find or attract players of a good enough standard. Indeed, with the signings he made, it was almost as if he'd forgotten we'd gone up, and was building a squad for another play-off push.
I'm not excited by Adkins, but he has a decent record, and it's probably better for him to come in now and have a good look at the players before the summer.
Overall I'm annoyed at the club as a whole for not taking the premier league seriously. How anyone thought the squad we had would have a chance of staying up is beyond me.
3. It has been a difficult season for Reading, but which of your players have impressed you the most, and has anyone not lived up to your expectations?
They simply aren't good enough, and performances have reflected that. The player of the year vote could be a toughie this year, due to so few candidates, but I'll probably go with Le Fondre, as he's about the only player you think might make a positive impact if he comes on.
4. I'd like to get your thoughts on Liverpool before we look ahead to the game itself, if you don't mind. What have your thought of us this season?
Inconsistent and crippled by expectation, but maybe have turned the corner now.
5. Brendan Rodgers had a brief spell at your club, what are your thoughts on him? Do you think he can be successful at Liverpool?
It was a shame he failed here. He joined the club as a youth, but never had a playing career because of injury. He must be the first manager in decades to have never played a first team match for an adult club at any level.
He had big ideas, but unfortunately sounded completely arrogant. Coupled with Reading very poor form under him, it made him come across as aloof and delusional. Maybe if he'd been given more time it would have worked out, but I think even a hint of humility would have helped. At times it was as if he'd been to see a hypnotist's act, and had been dragged up on stage and told he was Jose Mourinho leading Chelsea to glory.
6. Which of our payers have impressed your this season?
I've always been impressed with Suarez, but to be honest, I've barely bothered watching match of the day this season.
7. Looking at the game itself, how do you see Reading lining up? To have any realistic chance of survival I'm guessing you have to get three points from the game. Can you see Reading looking to attack Liverpool, and if so, are you confident you can do what AstonVilla couldn't and stop us hitting you on the break?
It's very hard to predict our tactics with a new boss in. I think it depends a lot more on which Liverpool turns up. We are well overdue a team turning up and half-arsing it because they think it'll be easy.
8. Finally, care to predict the score?
If we play like we did against Southampton, about 5-0 to Liverpool.
