Wipped Is Nigel Adkins the biggest managerial appointment we've made to date?
I'm not talking about managers that have done well here, but managers that we have been able to attract.
Tommy Burns when he arrived here came with a big reputation from his time at Celtic, and caused a lot of excitement when we brought him in to replace Terry the taxi; but he wasn't anywhere near as impressive an appointment as Adkins is in my opinion. Coppell had made a reputation at Crystal Palace and although the shadow of Man City hung over him, his appointment for me was the most exciting until today.
In the past, especially the recent past, Reading have been renowned for keeping it within the family, and appointing people that are associated with the club. Not a bad thing mind, but nevertheless, often uninspiring at the time they've been appointed. How wrong we've been to judge them so early though (McGhee, Pardew, McDermott..)
Now we see Nigel Adkins come in. A man that has a very impressive CV, and no shortage of interest in him from other clubs, most notably Leeds United, whom he turned down to come here.
For me this marks the start of a new period for our club. It's not little old Reading any more. People's opinion of us is changing, our stock is growing, and we are slowly but surely being accepted as a medium sized club in the category of clubs like M'boro, Leicester, Derby, Wolves etc. Now I just hope Anton supports the manager financially as he has said he will today. If he doesn't, well he's set himself for a future backlash now he's been so outspoken today.
Genuinely delighted and excited bout Adkins appointment. Now I feel confident we can mount a challenge for an immediate return to the Premier League next season!

friday fan I'm not overlley impressed but i'll give the man a go. He hasn't got an impressive cv and he has no Ricky Lambert to rely on. I hope he spends the transfer funds wisely. Only time will tell if he walks as well as he talks.

4 in 6 isn't good enough. I want 4in4 or even 4 in 3 then I'll be impressed.

Caskeys Lovechild Less Premier League experience than the man we've just sacked = not overly impressive CV.....
Spent £25million more - scored 1 point more in the time at Southampton in the Premier League = not overly impressive CV....
Is it that difficult to understand?

2 world wars, 1 world cup I shudder to think what Coppell of old would achieve with £30million.
